Building a climate of care

Care Work Is Essential Work. It's Also Climate Work.

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

The Leap

As temperatures drop, the engines of exploitation keep revving up -- and coronavirus cases are surging again. We're all bracing for a resurgence of the pandemic, and we know that so many of you are already being impacted. At The Leap, we're thinking about the communities that never experienced a reprieve from this nightmare, and the workers who continue to risk their lives every day.

We're thinking about our grandparents and elders -- including those living in long-term care facilities run for profit, left behind in horrific conditions, while billionaires grow even richer by treating people like them as disposable.

Supa, it's time for bold action for Wet'suwet'en.

Today is the last day of the Wet'suwet'en hearing in BC Supreme Court. Join us Tuesday to hear how it went.

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

RAVEN-Trust

Right now, Wet’suwet’en community members are resisting the transformation of their land and waters into a so-called ‘energy corridor’. Tomorrow, hereditary leaders will again face off against government and industry at the B.C. Supreme Court to defend the Skeena River’s sacred headwaters - and their ancestral home - from fossil fuel expansion. The stakes could not be higher for Indigenous land protectors. Can you donate to the legal challenge, and join forces with thousands of fellow citizens standing on the side of justice?

DONATE

On last week’s webinar, we heard from hereditary leaders, a matriarch, and one of the lawyers for Wet’suwet’en. All shared the specific stories of how and why they are backing a judicial review that challenges Coastal GasLink’s fracked gas pipeline on the basis of human rights concerns.

Chief Madeek expressed his sorrow at the loss of his cousin, one of the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls who continue to be at risk due to man-camps installed adjacent to vulnerable communities.

Six months, 30,000 meals – and more to do!

(please share widely)
Thank you for your ongoing support for the Red Cedar Cafe!
Today marks 6 months of operations and serving our 30,000th healthy meal to community members in need! We couldn't do it without your support.
On Easter Weekend in April 2020, we activated our not-for-profit Community Meal Program in response to the pandemic – opening our doors at a time when most social services and food establishments were closing. Since then, we've grown from an ad hoc group of hospitality industry professionals and community leaders into an organization with more than 300 volunteers and partnerships with dozens of local businesses and community organizations.
