Final notice on Energy East application:

r1

Friends,

I've sent you a lot of emails this past month about applying to the National Energy Board's review of Energy East and this is the last one: today is the last day to apply to be an intervenor in the Energy East review.

We've already spooked the NEB, forcing them to extend the application period by another week. So far over 2/3rds of all applications sent in demand to speak about climate change.

I'm asking for your help in one last push. Here are the steps to apply -- it takes 10-15 minutes at most:

  1. Click here and open this link for the NEB’s review page.
  2. Follow this step-by-step guide to apply to the NEB.
  3. Once you've finished, click here and register your application.

Tonight the extended application period will close, and with your help we can drive our point home: without considering climate change, the NEB review is incomplete and...

Guardian launches divestment campaign

r1

Hi friends,

Click here to read more about The Guardian's campaign & call on the world's two largest foundations to divest from fossil fuels.

In a watershed moment for the growing divestment movement, The Guardian is setting its sights on the contradictory fossil fuel investments of two of the largest philanthropic health and development organizations: the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation here in North America and the U.K.'s Wellcome Trust. Both are heavily invested in the industry wreaking havoc on our climate, a fact that’s at odds with their missions to create a better world.

Call on the Gates Foundation & the Wellcome Trust to divest from fossil...

Starting this week, if you live on the Lower Mainland you will receive an invitation to vote in the referendum on the future of the region’s transportation.

Some people want to vote NO.

Maybe they never lived in a city that failed to work out its transportation problems, as I have. Try London, England, in the 1980s, when the roads were so jammed with traffic that I had to plan on getting stuck for half an hour every time I needed to drive somewhere.

Fundamental Rifts:
Power, Wealth and Inequality in the Arab World

Adam Hanieh

Elsewhere, autocratic governments look more secure in their rule today than they have for many years.

In assessing the current moment,...
