Hi there friend,
We're reaching out today to say thank you.
Thank you for being a part of the community that helped us reach our end of year fundraising goal for 2020! An incredible 2,121 Stand.earth supporters donated and we’re now in a strong position to fight hard on the issues all of us care most about in 2021.
But even more importantly, we want to thank you for being a part of this movement. Our team is fewer than 50 people, but this community is nearly 500,000 people strong and growing – and together, we're using our collective power to fight climate change, protect wild spaces, stand with impacted communities, and say no to new fossil fuels.
Our victories throughout 2020 would not have been possible without members like you. So thanks again for your continued support friend, and for being part of this people-powered movement.
Happy new year! May 2021 bring joy, courage – and plenty of progress toward the better world we all know is possible.
With gratitude and...

Trump’s Final Act: Snuffing Out the Promise of Democracy in the Middle East
Vijay Prashad
Ten years ago, a hawker in Tunisia set himself on fire, which spurred on people along the entire Mediterranean Sea – from Morocco to Spain – to rise up in revolt. They took to their squares indignant at the terrible conditions in which they had to make their lives.
Little of their agenda has been advanced in the past decade. Governments of the southern European states have one by one betrayed the aspirations of the people; the most dramatic such failure was of the Syriza government in Greece, which won a mandate against austerity and...

In this episode we explore Politico’s obsession with how Trudeau the Politics Dad grew a quarantine beard. Touching on news topics throughout the year like the Wet’suwet’en protests, CERB rollout, and the BLM uprising, this episode serves as our review of the dumpster fire that has been 2020.
Happy New Year!

Hi Friend,
As one of our supporters, we know you care about many different issues.
Whether it’s ending police harms or protecting our democratic rights - we’ve likely secured victories on an issue you care deeply about.
Thank you so much for supporting our work this year, and helping us secure victories for our collective rights and wellbeing.
When someone’s rights are violated, they deserve justice. Not everyone has the ability to challenge the government on their unjust actions.
But we do. We’re a small organization, but we want to have a big impact in the fight for justice.
Every day, our lawyers are fighting for what’s right.
Legal processes can be long and complicated. It takes creative tactics and resources to fight these battles. Our lawyers dedicate hundreds of hours to building strong legal arguments. They stand up for justice with conviction and a fighting spirit.
As we close out the year, I invite you to make a donation to support our...

My friend, we’re down to the wire. We have less than 24 hours left in 2020 and we’re still $10,996 short of our fundraising target for the year.
Despite the challenges we faced in 2020, the Stand.earth community scored impressive victories that genuinely made the world a better place for all of us and the creatures we share it with:
- We stopped the Teck Mine that would have been the biggest tar sands oil operation in the world.
- We exposed how major banks are financing oil trade from the biodiverse Amazon Sacred Headwaters, pressuring many of them to stop and sparking serious international pressure against the remaining bad actors.
- We...

In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to 350. I hope that you will give me a chance to explain why this request — especially today — is so important.
Here is the truth:
Tonight at midnight, we close the books on our end of year fundraising deadline.
When that happens, we are going to quickly update our budget based on how much we raised. And then, we are going to get to work using those donations to launch campaigns targeting the fossil fuel industry in virtually every corner of the globe.
So our job between right now and midnight tonight is not just to raise as much money as we can, but to generate as many donations as we possibly can as well. Because when you are taking on the climate crisis on this scale, it means everyone has a role to play.
So with the clock racing toward midnight, I have to ask:
Our movement...

Hi there A,
Wow, our community is truly incredible.
I sent the email below only a couple of days ago, and already thousands of people have made one last gift to our work this year.
Together, we can make sure 2021 will be a historic year to save our rainforests, protect the bees from toxic pesticides, and stop the flow of corporate money into politics.
I won’t lie, it won’t be easy to push back against corporate bullies like Bayer, Facebook and Co. But with your help, anything is possible.
That's why I'm asking you: will you make your final gift of the year so we’re ready for 2021?

For Leo: the Teacher, the Friend, the Comrade
Michalis Spourdalakis
The news of his hospitalization came unexpectedly just a few weeks ago. When things became more difficult for him, Skype became the tool to carry out his “commitments.” You see, there was this conference on Socialism in the 21st century in January, organized by the Nicos Poulantzas Institute. His response to my awkward jokes, as well as our discussion about his interview about the American elections in the Greek newspaper Epohi and about his concerns regarding the condition of the Left in Greece helped to soften those first pangs of anxiety. Informing me of his diagnosis and treatment, through...

When They Say Jump: The ATU and the TTC
Jim Nolan
On Thursday, December 17, Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU Local 113), the union that represents the majority of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) workers, provided an example of how not to organize its membership for a job action.
At 7:30pm, the evening before the action was meant to take place, members received a vague text from the union’s president. It urged bus, transit and subway operators to briefly stop work for 4 minutes and 30 seconds “in honor of Transit Worker Assault Awareness Day.” That same evening, a short announcement about this planned work stoppage was also made at the General...

Hi Friend,
If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that defending civil liberties and human rights is imperative.
This year, our team has passionately fought in the courts, advocated for meaningful law reform, and advanced public legal education. They did this work with conviction and a fighting spirit.
Will you make a donation today, and bring our collective fighting spirit into 2021?
Some of the highlights of our work this
year include:
- Supporting nationwide efforts to
protect the rights of the most oppressed during the
pandemic to ensure no one was left behind, while speaking out against
unreasonable breaches of civil liberties and policing of the
pandemic.
- Fighting for an end to policing harms on multiple fronts, including our advocacy with community groups to ban police street checks in BC as well as our lawsuit against RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki
- Securing an important victory with community organizations in forcing a pause on a coercive bill proposing a new form of...

Free Transit Ottawa
Public transit is an essential service. In the midst of a pandemic it is also a particularly dangerous one for transit workers and transit users. The City of Ottawa has tried to strike the right balance, but more needs to be done. Free Transit Ottawa calls on the Mayor and City Council to immediately take the following steps:
1. Formally suspend all fare collection
Many riders are experiencing a severe loss of income but still need to use transit to make essential trips. 16 cities in Canada have already implemented free transit, however, Ottawa-Carleton Transportation (OC Transpo) has only announced back door boarding on...

Millions of India’s Farmers Are in a Fight for Their Economic Lives
Sonali Kolhatkar
India’s farmers are revolting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in a mass movement that has drawn international attention. The world’s largest democracy is witnessing a collective groundswell of protest as hundreds of thousands of farmers, largely from the states of Punjab and Haryana, have laid siege to the outskirts of the capital of New Delhi, determined to occupy the edges of the city until Modi reverses unpopular new laws that they say are anti-farmer.
About half of India’s workers depend on the agricultural industry, and the government has long had in place regulations to protect...

Stop the Line 3 pipeline

Hi there,
I just got off the phone with renowned environmental activist Winona La Duke. Canadian company Enbridge has begun construction of the dirty Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline stretching from Alberta to Wisconsin – and Winona and her allies have asked for our help to stop it.
Construction may be underway, but opposition is stronger than ever too. Last week, 22 water protectors were arrested for resisting construction.
Joe Biden has the power to review the permits granted by Trump and can still halt construction on this destructive pipeline. But he won’t do it without an unprecedented wave of public pressure.
SIGN NOWIf constructed, this pipeline would carry 760,000 barrels of tar sands oil from Canada every, single, day – using a three-foot-wide pipe as big as Keystone XL. This would be devastating to our climate, threaten the Mississippi River,...

A,
I think we can all agree: 2020 has been a difficult and exhausting year.
But somehow you didn't let that stop you. Even in this time of crisis, you got to work and took on some of the biggest companies in the world.
That’s right, A. When we looked back at the year, one name kept showing up again and again: Yours.
By signing petitions, making phone calls, donating and rallying politicians and CEOs on social media, you’ve made a real difference. You’ve protected orangutans from dirty palm oil, stopped Bayer from selling more bee-killers, and helped defend the Great Barrier Reef from one of the most toxic coal mines in the world.
But we can’t stop here -- there’s too much at stake in 2021: Bayer is already gearing up to get a new license for glyphosate, banks are still funding the climate crisis, and corporate executives everywhere are looking for new opportunities to make a quick buck at the expense of people and planet. We can only face down these challenges fighting side by side.
So as the year comes to a close, we wanted to ask: can you make one last incredible gift this year?
