Spanish Left: 50 Steps to Govern Together
The coalition between Podemos and IU (called "Unidos Podemos" -- Together We Can) is the only one that, on 26 June, could overturn the situation created by the 20 December Spanish election. In order to do that, Podemos and IU have agreed on a 50-point programme to end austerity and bring democracy to the country. Here we present a translation posted on the transform! website.
The upcoming general election will not simply be another election like those that have preceded it. Given their political importance, we will participate with a comprehensive agreement. The political forces taking part in this agreement will keep for June 26th election their own manifestos as proclaimed for December 20th, 2015. Nevertheless, we have produced a...

MPs are pushing for key changes to end excessive secrecy in the federal government – and you can help!

The federal Conservatives failed to keep their promises to end excessive secrecy in the federal government. The Liberals have made essentially the same promises – and a committee of MPs just recommended many key open government changes.
Every recent independent report has shown more excessive secrecy in the federal government than any time since the so-called Access to Information law passed in 1983.
The law is so weak it really should be called the “Guide to...

The Pollution Free Politics Push has begun! Around the country, hundreds of Australians are taking bold and powerful action to hold their politicians to account for the damage they are doing to our climate and our future.
Just three days in and with the election looming, already we’ve seen everyday people take extraordinary action at electorate offices from coast to coast. Here’s a taster:
On Tuesday, mothers, GPs, priests, students and retirees peacefully occupied Resources and Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg’s electorate office, whilst outside community members re-branded the pro-fossil fuels Minister’s office a climate crime scene.

21 June 2016 (ITUC OnLine): Technology itself is not a threat to decent work – it is how it is managed and in whose interest that matters, said international labour unions ahead of an OECD Ministerial meeting on the Digital Economy in Mexico.
“The digital revolution provides opportunities for decent jobs and quality services if governments regulate business behaviour as we expect them to do in traditional industries. The next wave of technology can play a huge role in the transformation to a zero-carbon/ zero-poverty world, but governments need to accept their responsibilities to ensure that transition is just, and that social dialogue, labour rights, social protection and effective regulation are at the centre of the process,” said Sharan Burrow, General Secretary, International Trade Union Confederation.

Wall: Sunshine Premier Makes History
J. F. Conway
Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall has earned a major place in Saskatchewan's political history. On April 4 he broke the back of the NDP, the province's "natural governing party" since 1944. Until Wall's first victory in 2007 the CCF/NDP ruled the province, suffering only two interruptions. Liberal Ross Thatcher defeated Woodrow Lloyd's CCF in 1964 and 1967, only to be crushed by Allan Blakeney's NDP in 1971. Tory Grant Devine defeated Blakeney in 1982 and 1986, only to be wiped out by Roy Romanow's NDP in 1991. Until Wall's victory over Lorne Calvert's NDP in 2007 the CCF/NDP ruled the province for 46 years from 1944 to 2007. Both Thatcher and Devine became minor footnotes in Saskatchewan's...
