Friends,
The federal government is seriously underestimating how much people in this country care about ambitious climate action. Throughout their national climate consultation process, MPs have announced townhalls last minute, booked low-capacity venues, and tried to avoid talking about some of the most important climate questions in Canada, like how much fossil fuel we need to keep in the ground.
Nevertheless, overwhelmingly, townhalls have been packed. People have shown up in massive numbers despite the short notice -- and there’s a clear consensus every time for transitioning away from fossil fuels towards a justice-based 100% renewable energy economy.
You can join thousands across the country, by signing up to speak up for the ‘People’s Climate Plan’ at a government climate townhall in your community. Click here to find a townhall near you.

Spanish Left Falls Short in Poll Amid New Deadlock
Dick Nichols
The key question about the result of the June 26 Spanish general election is also the most difficult to answer: why did 1.09 million people -- who in the December 20 elections voted for the anti-austerity party Podemos, the United Left (IU) and the three broader progressive tickets Together We Can (Catalonia), Podemos-Commitment (Valencian Country) and In Tide (Galicia) -- not vote for the combined Podemos-IU ticket (United We Can) and these broader tickets at this poll?
The election recorded a greater vote for the ruling right-wing People's Party (PP). The social-democratic Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) also held off the seemingly unstoppable charge of United We Can and its allies toward supplanting...

Hey Paov,
Polio is a paralysing and deadly disease that the world is within reach of eradicating for good, but achieving that goal is at risk.
You can change this by adding your name to the petition calling on Canada to show international leadership by pledging an additional $150M towards polio eradication.

The Canadian government's requirement of a visa for all travellers from Romania and Bulgaria has put a strain on the ratification of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). As a result, Immigration Minister John McCallum will be in Brussels next week to try to smooth over the issue.

The government is feeling the heat of our campaign to stop the Site C dam, but they need an extra push to do the right thing.
Will you take 3 minutes to call Fisheries Minister LeBlanc and ask him refuse to sign permits until courts rule on the First Nations’ legal challenge?
Call nowWow! Once again, I am absolutely blown away by the Leadnow community’s generosity and commitment. Last week, I spent more time that I’d like to admit checking our fundraising numbers and grinning as I realized how quickly we were going to beat our target…
Thank you so much to the hundreds of you who pitched in to protect the Peace River Valley from the Site C dam.
Because of you, we’ll be able to amplify the voices of affected farmers and First Nations through a powerful video, to set up billboards in the Prime Minister’s riding, and to flood key ministers’ offices with phone calls from people who are concerned by the dam. Click here to make a quick call now.

Trudeau Climate Plan Challenged at Toronto ‘Town Halls’
John Riddell
The first two public consultations on climate action organized by Canada's national government in Toronto, gave strong support to the demands of the People's Climate Plan (PCP), an alternative to federal climate-related proposals. The PCP's proposals are listed below.
The two concepts most frequently voiced at the gatherings, held June 17 and June 24, were support for Indigenous rights and opposition to further expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. Participants listened attentively to the government's presentations but offered no congratulations for its initial proposals.
At a related Toronto consultation on June 15 on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal, also held by the federal government, was met by sharp and near-unanimous opposition from an...

Brussels, 4 July 2016 (ITUC OnLine): The ITUC has described the sentencing of KCTU President Han Sang-gyun to five years' in prison on charges of "obstruction" as a travesty of justice. The sentence was handed down by Seoul Central District Court following allegations by government prosecutors stemming from a series of legitimate protest assemblies in 2015, including a November 14 2015 rally in Seoul in which 100,000 demonstrators were met with tear gas and water cannon used by some 20,000 police. Dozens were injured, some seriously, and criminal procedures were launched against 585 KCTU leaders and members, 20 of whom are in custody and seven facing indictment. KCTU Secretary General Lee Young-joo remains under self-imposed house arrest at the KCTU headquarters after receiving an arrest warrant in December.
