Great discussion yesterday! The range of topics was quite diverse but I think we regularly found ourselves returning to the need for both international solidarity and revolutionary organizing at home in our communities. Several people asked me to follow up with our remaining events (and links to the reading) in January, so here they are:
January 21st @ 6:30PM - Socialism: Utopian and Scientific
A short pamphlet by Friedrich Engels outlining the differences between various historical and current versions of socialism and the relevance of these different philosophies on concrete political goals.

January 28th @ 6:30PM - Wage-Labour and Capital
An introduction to the economic critique of capitalism written by Karl Marx in 1847. The contents cover the long-term implications of capitalism (including the basis for collapses similar to the recent recessions) and the social relations that are inherent to private ownership of the means of production.

The Militarization of Policing:
Defending the Movements, Challenging the Police
Lesley J. Wood Interviewed by Greg Albo

The massive police presence at these protests, with weapons and armoured vehicles that looked and felt like major military deployments, made it clear to all that something fundamental had taken place in policing practices and strategies. The intensification and extension of the coercive and security branches of the state was well-known since the declaration of the ‘war on terror’ in 2001, and the subsequent leaks of...
