More of the worlds wealth is owned by fewer people -- and our share of the rest of it is collapsing

BY JOHN MCMURTRY | JANUARY 28, 2016

The just-released Oxfam Davos Report shows that 62 individuals -- 388 in 2010 -- now own more wealth than 50 per cent of the world's population. Against Privatization:
Health Coalition Demands Funding for Hospitals

The 1960s were about much more than protesting the war in Vietnam. It was also a time of cultural upheaval as a new generation challenged capitalist values, including its shallow democracy, and environmental issues emerged both in the workplace and in the community. One response by the state in the core capitalist countries was to give increased prominence to the welfare state. From the mid-60s into the 1970s, the most significant expansion in the welfare state (particularly in Canada) occurred as major commitments were made to healthcare, education, and income security.

Four years on, mill-fire victims still wait for justice

Four years ago Wednesday, B.C. suffered from one of its worst workplace catastrophes when the Babine Mill in Burns Lake exploded. And four years after the fire that killed Robert Luggi and Carl Charlie, family and friends and the other victims of the explosion are still looking for justice and still waiting for Premier Christy Clark to live up to the promises she made.

The community remembers. They remember Clark flying in the day after the explosion and saying, “we are going to be there. We are going to step up.”

Real Peoples Media

On Sunday, October 25, a 10 person delegation headed by Irene Leon, advisor to the Ecuadorian foreign minister, was welcomed at the Kayanere’ko:wa longhouse within the K^onthyokwanhasta on Elijah Rd, on Oneida Nation territory. This gathering was the latest step in the development of an ongoing relationship between three traditional Oneida Nation clan families who follow the Kayanere’ko:wa (the Great Peace), and the movement known as the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).

Sunday's delegation was received by some 35 members of the Turtle, Wolf and Bear clans, including Hoyane (chiefs) and clan mothers. The delegation from Ecuador included representatives from Alliance Pais, the coalition of social movements backing the current Ecudorian government as well...
