A third shutdown of an Enbridge pipeline
Early yesterday morning, someone shut down Enbridge’s Line 7 oil pipeline near Cambridge Ontario by activating a shutoff valve. This is the third time in less than a month that an Enbridge pipeline was turned off- but the first time that it was done anonymously.

Upcoming January Events

Hello comrades and friends!
Hopefully you're having a restful and relaxing holidays! For those who attended our Marxmas Party, thank you so much for coming out and supporting the organization! It was a great evening of political discussion with a slight overabundance of delicious beverages.
In January, we will be doing a month of introductory discussion groups that are excellently tailored to people new to Marxism. Due to the recent electoral events in Venezuela (where the Opposition took a majority of the seats), we will be starting with an analysis of the Bolivarian Revolution and the effects this electoral shift will likely have.
All events will be held at QV Cafe (1701 Government St). The links lead to the literature being discussed - prior reading is encouraged but not required. Discussion is open to everybody in a safe environment and every opinion will be heard.
Here are the four events we will be doing...

A New Political Situation in Latin America: What Lies Ahead?

Interview with Claudio Katz

Two recent events -- the second-round victory on November 22 of right-wing candidate Mauricio Macri in Argentina's presidential election, and the December 6 victory of the right-wing Democratic Unity Roundtable, winning two thirds of the seats in Venezuela's National Assembly elections -- have radically altered the political map in South America. In the following interview, Argentine Marxist Claudio Katz discusses what these setbacks for the left mean for the progressive "process of change" that has unfolded on the continent over the last 10-15 years. My translation from the Spanish.

Katz is a professor of economics at the University of Buenos Aires, a researcher with the National Council of Science and...

After Paris:

Unify Fights Against Austerity and Climate Change

Asbjørn Wahl

The Climate Summit in Paris has once again reminded us of how vulnerable we are on planet earth. However, humanity is faced with a number of deep and challenging crises: economic, social, political, over food -- and, of course, over climate change, which is threatening the very existence of millions of people. These crises have many of the same root causes, going to the core of our economic system.

Strong vested interests are involved. It is thus an interest-based struggle we are facing. All over the world, people are organizing and fighting against the effects of the crises. Trade unions are heavily involved in many of these struggles, and so are many...

"What We've Achieved So Far"

An interview with Jeremy Corbyn

Hilary Wainwright and Leo Panitch in conversation with Jeremy Corbyn, the new leader of the UK Labour Party. They talk about the meaning of ‘new politics’, Tony Benn's legacy, and opening up Labour's policymaking to the people.

Hilary Wainwright is a member of Red Pepper's editorial collective and a fellow of the Transnational Institute. Leo Panitch is distinguished research professor at York University, Canada. This interview was conducted on a train ride from Birmingham to London, 12 November 2015.

Leo Panitch (LP): Your remarkable campaign for the leadership not only doubled the party membership but galvanized some 400,000 people overall to associate with the party. This is frankly unheard of anywhere in terms of party...
