The 4th annual anti-capitalist May Day saw an unprecedented turn out of over 20,000 (not a typo and most likely way more) radicals, queers, ravers, anarchists, partiers, socialists and people from all walks of life. May Day, International Worker's Day, is a day to celebrate our power to resist the exploitation of capitalist elites. In this spirit we showed we don't need the support of corporate sponsors, the city, or the police to throw the most badass street party Vancouver has seen in a long time.

NSA Partnered with German Intelligence to Spy on Offices of French President and other EU Allies

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, President Obama and German Chancellor Merkel, 2011 (AP photo)

Intelligence spying involving the United States and Germany is once again in the news, only this time the rift isn’t between the two allies.

Unlike the 2013 revelation that the National Security Agency had spied on German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the latest snooping hoopla has the NSA using Germany’s electronic listening technology to spy on other European allies, including the leader of France. The American-German cooperation went on for at least a decade, according to a parliamentary investigation in Berlin.

The courts will not deliver smaller class sizes to B.C.

BY TARA EHRCKE | MAY 1, 2015

Yesterday's B.C. Court of Appeal ruling against the B.C. Teachers' Federation was a disappointment to teachers and parents across the province. Many hoped that the court would uphold the trial judge's ruling that the actions of the B.C. government were bargaining in bad faith, and therefore unconstitutional, and therefore must be undone.

Yes, Unsubscribe From Netflix: These Small Steps Matter for Native Self-Esteem

Gyasi Ross

Little things make a big difference.

Look, expecting intelligent content from an Adam Sandler movie is like expecting an honest statement from Vanilla Ice about where he’s from. Pointless. He makes stupid sh!t. Absolutely, the content of the movie The Ridiculous Six is stupid but so is the content of Happy Gilmore(one of my favorite movies),Blended(including a minstrel show African safari with Terry Crews as head coon),Billy Madison(complete with a huge penguin) and literally every single other Adam Sandler movie ever made.

He makes idiotic and sometimes racist content. We get it.

I CANT BELIEVE ITS NOT LOBBYING: THE NATIONAL PETROLEUM COUNCIL

BY ALLEEN BROWN AlleenBrown
FRIDAY AT 6:17 AM (This post is from our new blog: Unofficial Sources.)

The National Petroleum Council includes top executives from Exxon Mobil, Shell and BP America. It has an annual budget of $4.5 million collected from members, and pays its executive director $750,000 in salary and benefits. And it regularly “makes recommendations” to the U.S. Secretary of Energy — as in its recent report “Arctic Potential: Realizing the Promise of U.S. Arctic Oil and Gas Resources,” which advocates changes to regulations that “are limiting Arctic exploration activity.”

From Minimum Wage to a Fair Wage

LeftStreamed — Recorded in Toronto -- 27 March 2015

From Minimum Wage to a Fair Wage

This round table brings together some of the leading North American activists and scholars concerned with the situation of minimum/low wage work. It is widely known that current minimum wage legislation is grossly inadequate in raising low wage workers income out of poverty. It is from this context that a cross-national campaign has emerged to demand a living/fair wage standard be enacted and enforced. This grassroots struggle has gained considerable traction with some notable successes. However, the fight for wage fairness is a difficult one and progress has been uneven. The panelists provide an assessment of the struggles outlining its importance and future possibilities.
