Horrific situation in Gaza:This baby died of its injuries, and was buried by a stranger who volunteered, as the baby's whole family had also been killed.

Israel is now targeting journalists and media workers: several have been killed.

A woman who was 8 months pregnant was killed: doctors managed to save her fetus, a baby girl, and put her into an incubator. 5 days later, *Israel destroyed Gaza's only power plant, cutting off all electricity,* and the baby died. She was buried with her mother. (*The starred phrase has only been claimed by the Arab press, so I don't know if the electric failure caused the baby's death or not.)
After a ceasefire was declared, Gazans rushed to get food and supplies. Israel bombed a market, killing 15.

Are you a visual or spoken word artist? Your art is needed to show solidarity with people who are in danger of intimidation and violence as they work to protect the air, land and water in their communities impacted by Canadian mining operations.
Approximately 70% of the world’s mining companies are registered in Canada, and in many cases Canadian mining operations are associated with human rights abuses and environmental degradation. The artist is invited to investigate the subject and then create a work that reflects their response to the situation. Write to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Friend,
I am writing to ask
that you take a few minutes to take a stand with First Nations and
Salt Spring Island residents who are concerned about the
desecration of an indigenous burial ground at a place
called Grace Islet in Ganges Harbour.
Construction is underway on a private residence, authorized by a provincial Site Alteration Permit and a CRD building permit, but elders, chiefs and grassroots members of the W̱SÁNEĆ and Hul'qumi'num Nations have demanded that work stop and that the site be protected.
I have served notice of motion to the Capital Regional District Board, calling for the CRD to legally expropriate...

Our 2015 election strategy: An important question for you

Time and again, the Leadnow community has voted to support cooperation between the NDP, Liberals and Greens to defeat Conservative incumbents in the next election, elect a Parliament that better represent a majority of people in Canada, and then work together across party lines to pass crucial reforms.[1]
What do you think about cooperation between voters to achieve the same goal? We know that the idea of “strategic voting” to defeat the Conservatives has both serious advantages and real challenges - and we want your input.
If we told you, just before the election, that a candidate from a different party other than your first choice had the best chance of defeating the Conservative in your riding, would you be willing to shift your vote?
1. YES
2. NO
3. YES, under the right conditions
Do you have additional thoughts to share on why you may or may not switch your vote, or more broadly on the wisdom of this strategy? Don’t worry, there will be space for you to share your thoughts after making your selection. In the last federal election, our broken first-past-the-post electoral system made it possible for Harper’s Conservatives to win 100% of the power in Parliament with just 39% of the votes. In the next federal election, voters could elect a Parliament that better represented a majority, but we’d need to work together across the country.

The Tyee recently featured a study by UVic Phd candidate Christina Service, which documents grizzlies colonizing 10 central coast islands- a far cry from what was previously thought to be their typical habitat range. The study supports local Indigenous knowledge, which has been observing the phenomenon for years. The reasons for the habitat shift are still largely unconfirmed, though many cite declining salmon populations as a possible cause. See a video of the Grizzlies on the Vancouver Sun website.

Journalist and author Alison Weir tours Vancouver Island July 28 and July 29
Author, journalist and public affairs campaigner Alison Weir will speak on Vancouver Island on July 28 and 29 about the origins of the pro-Israeli bias among Western governments and media.
Her new book, Against Our Better Judgment: How the US was used to create Israel, uses meticulously sourced evidence to show how the US was manipulated into backing the creation of a Jewish state in the Middle East.
Weir is the founder and executive director of If Americans Knew, an organization that focuses on the Middle East and US foreign policy towards it. The organization documents how US policy consistently favours Israel, resulting in considerable financial and military aid to the state of Israel, at great cost to Americans.
Against Our Better Judgment brings to light startling new evidence to show how a...

We’ve reached 82% of our Goal with only 4 days left!
Our campaign to make Proportional Representation a key issue in the 2015 election is really resonating with people! Over 500 Donors have tolds us ‘Yes, we want to make all votes count so that we can change the dynamics in Canadian Politics and start to deal with the most important issues.
If you have already donated, Thank You! Your support and faith in this campaign means a lot to us.
If you have not donated yet but would like to join us in sending a clear signal to Canadian Politicians that we want a political system that respects all voters, there is still time. Our Indiegogo campaign will close on Sunday at 11:59pm est.
We have so much to do starting with finishing the Riding Map on the website that will provide you with crucial candidate information during the 2015 election. And, create informative videos that will show Canadians what Proportional Representation could look like in Canada.
We know that in addition to making votes count, and delivering fair, representative election results, Proportional Representation outperforms winner-take-all systems on measures of democracy, quality of life, income equality, environmental performance, and economic growth.
Please Help us build the campaign that will allow us to work on the most important issues of our time!
