Friends,
We’ve seen some big highs and lows in the fight against the tar sands recently. A high point is that the Energy East pipeline hit a huge roadblock when the entire review panel for the project stepped down under public pressure. The downside is that the fossil fuel industry's using this moment to try and force the Kinder Morgan pipeline through to Canada’s West Coast.

Why We Shouldn’t Pay $1-Billion for the Ring of Fire
Matthew Corbeil
Hyped as "Northern Ontario's oil sands," the Ring of Fire mineral deposit is inching closer to development. Noront Resources, which now holds 75 per cent of the active mining claims in the area 400 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, has recently announced plans to begin mine construction in 2018. Developing North America's largest chromite deposit, the company claims, will create "jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Northern Ontario."
To help things along, the provincial government has pledged upward of $1-billion in public funding for infrastructural development, including a permanent access road to the remote -- and ecologically sensitive -- James Bay lowlands site.
Nearby Matawa First Nation leaders, however, remain far...

Paov,
There have never been so many people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and violence since World War II.
Over 65 million people have been forced out of their homes across the world. Almost half of them – 28 million – are children. They have lost their possessions and their family security, and they need our help.
Click here to tell world leaders that they must protect and support refugees everywhere.

Corbyn's Manifesto on Digital Democracy
Technological advancements have transformed our daily lives, and politics is changing too. The issues may not change that much – people want decent housing and decent jobs, they want access to education and opportunity, they want thriving public services and a society which works for the millions not just the millionaires. But the terrain on which opinions are formed is changing.
With rapid advances in digital technology, data and information can become sources of inequality and exploitation as well. This digital manifesto is about ensuring that our advances are shared, utilised and enjoyed by everyone, as part of a wider strategy to rebuild and transform Britain so that no one and no community is left behind.
