05 May 2016

Hey rabble readers,

The links between climate change and forest fires are well established. So far, Elizabeth May is the only party leader to go there. Why not Tom? Or Justin? Karl Nerenberg reports on the devastating forest fire that hit Fort McMurray and it is well and truly a must read.

"Dilma's Mistake Was to Promote Class Conciliation"

Interview With João Pedro Stédile

The economist and leader of the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) of Brazil, Joao Pedro Stédile, affirmed that left-wing forces won't allow the Parliamentarian right to fulfill their wish to force Dilma Rousseff out of the presidency to reinstall neoliberalism in the country.

LibreRed (LR): What will be the reaction of the Brazilian people and the MST in particular if Dilma Rousseff is destituted?

João Pedro Stédile (JPS): First of all, we're confident that it's possible to stop the coup in process now that it has reached the Senate. We believe that the government...

Uniting for workers killed and injured on the job

rabble.ca - News for the rest of us

28 Apr 2016

Hey rabble readers,

This week saw so many Big Media blunders it's hard to know where to start. Margaret Wente was -- not once, but twice -- called out for plagiarism the last couple of months, the CBC continues to sit on the Panama Papers data leak and withhold the names of Canadians who stash their cash offshore, and the National Post, still hung up on Harper's defeat, actively campaigns for Trudeau to break his election promise to not purchase F-35s.

Bangladesh: Governments Anti-Union Actions Prompt Complaint to ILO - ITUC OnLine

Brussels, 25 April 2016 (ITUC OnLine): Three years after the Rana Plaza factory collapse killed over 1,200 workers, persistent and growing violations by the Bangladesh government of its responsibility to respect workers' rights have led the ITUC to lodge a Freedom of Association case at the International Labour organisation. With the Registrar of Trade Unions refusing legitimate registration applications for unions in the garment and other sectors, workers are being deprived of their right to collective representation, and local employers continue to repress union activity with impunity.

Wow. In a little over a day Fair Vote Canada supporters have contributed over half the money we need for these three projects. I'm deeply grateful. An Elections Canada report released this week stated that they are preparing to "deliver a fundamentally different election in 2019." We've come this far. Together, we're working to make sure the government keeps its promise to "Make Every Vote Count"! If you can help, please contribute now.
