Friends: if anyone has contact in eastern Canada please forward this message, it will be much appreciated.
The Chilean Navy ‘schooner “Esmeralda” will be in Canada at the end of June and July: Halifax, Sept-Iles, Charlottetown, Quebec.
This vessel was used as a floating torture chamber during the US sponsored Pinochet dictatorship in Chile. Aboard this ship – among many others - father Michael Woodward was tortured and his body made “disappeared” to an unknown location.
The Chilean navy has never admitted to their crimes and has refused to disclose what they did with father Woodward’s body.
In 2011 the Esmeralda visited Victoria and Vancouver, where they received the rebuke of elected officials and the general public, among them, those who were tortured in the vessel.

May Day in Victoria
Monday, May 1 at 4pm, corner of Richmond and Fort.
Celebrating International Workers Day in Victoria by showing our support for the 4.000 hospital support service workers who are being hyper exploited by multinationals corporations owning the contracts for cleaning and dietary services in our hospitals.
VIHA plays an important and pivotal role in this exploitation, taking full advantage of it and hiding behind the multinationals.
Please wear “orange” so symbolize workers getting “squeezed” like oranges by multinationals in our city.

Dear Friends of SJS,
Course offered by Mosqoy and the UN-mandated University for Peace
We are excited to announce that Mosqoy's Field School is partnering with The Human Rights Centre at the United Nations-mandated University for Peace to launch a new hybrid e-learning + field certificate course on Cultural Rights and Development: The Realities of Globalization in the Andes, which will be offered from September 25 to November 3, 2017.
This exciting new hybrid e-learning and field course will critically examine gender, development, and cultural rights, in the face of globalization and change. The course will look at the discrepancies between these rights in theory and practice, focusing on how they translate into the realities of the Quechua people. Profits from this field course will directly support Mosqoy's charitable programs.
The first 4 weeks of the course will be conducted online through the UPEACE Human Rights Centre, and will include an in-depth study...

Who will defend public health care against Brian Day?

This is especially scary because whoever gets elected on May 9th will be the government defending public health care against Brian Day's legal attack in court this fall.
We need to act fast to show our political parties that voters don't want more privatized health care for B.C. Can you pledge to vote for public health care...
