Taking place on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, PeerNetBC’s Community Workshops are provided twice per year. These workshops are open to everyone and offer a great opportunity to learn and network with people from various communities, groups and organizations.

Cost: $15 - $75+ sliding scale, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

In 1 days, I’m going to put on a suit and head to TD’s annual shareholder meeting here in Toronto where I’ll hand deliver a petition calling on TD to stop supporting Kinder Morgan’s dirty tarsands pipeline.

More than 15,000 Leadnow members have already signed, but we need to make this petition huge before Thursday’s petition delivery. Will you add your name now?

TD is helping Kinder Morgan line up investors to fund the Trans Mountain pipeline -- a dirty tarsands pipeline that would threaten BC’s coast with oil spills and unleash a dangerous increase in climate pollution. [1]

Right now, TD is especially vulnerable to public pressure. They’re under federal investigation for illegal and unethical sales tactics, and they’d do almost anything to avoid another scandal. [2]

This Senator has got to go

Kidnapping. Beatings. Sexual abuse. These are the horrors of Canada’s residential schools that stole Indigenous children away from their families in order to forcibly assimilate them. Now, there’s a Canadian Senator who actually wants to focus on the schools’ “good deeds”.[1-2]

Conservative Senator Lynn Beyak is a Harper-era Senate appointee who's sitting on the committee tasked with confronting the legacy of colonialism in Canada.

Senator Beyak’s comments that Canada should be focusing on the “good deeds” done by residential schools are totally unacceptable. They fly in the face of the spirit and goals of the committee, and show that she is unfit to serve on it. She has to go.

Some of the Active Committee were with our van at University of Victoria near the Student Union. to emphasize Anti- Apartheid. Then the van toured downtown Victoria.

It was a good trial run at a university. We learned to have at least two people stay by the van at all times. The rear panel was defaced by an unseen graffiti marker.

The stakes for health care in May’s election just went way up:

This month B.C. allowed Anbang, a massive multinational investment corporation, to take over the biggest chain of seniors care homes in B.C. - even as serious concerns about Anbang’s ownership and intentions go unanswered. [1]

That same week, for-profit blood brokers confirmed they plan to harvest blood plasma from people in B.C. to sell at a huge profit on the international market - starting with a collection clinic in Kelowna. So far the province refuses to stop them - even though Canadian Blood Services says letting pay-for-plasma into B.C. will hurt our ability to collect the blood B.C. patients need. [2]

I would be lying if I pretended Justin Trudeau's one-man-rule-broken-promise didn't sting.

Apparently, we're not the only ones reeling from the realization that our Prime Minister does not sympathize with over 9,000,000 Canadian voters who do not have effective representation.

After he broke his key election promise to Make Every Vote Count, this petition in the House of Commons took off like wild fire and is now the biggest petition in the history of government sponsored e-petitions!
