Good news!

NationBuilder r1

Dear Paov -- Thank you!

Thank you for supporting our campaign to make sure all BC babies have health coverage!

After hundreds of people sent messages and shared the campaign on social media, this campaign was featured on the front page of The Province on Monday.

Then, the BC MSP office reached out to Sanctuary Health and asked to meet as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, we met with the leadership of BC MSP and Pharmaceutical Services. They agreed that all BC-born babies deserve and are eligible for health coverage under MSP.

They also said the parents’ immigration status shouldn't be a barrier to an infant getting coverage and confirmed that their office does not share registration information with the Canada Border Services Agency. This...

Upcoming event:
Yves Engler book launch Wed., November 16, 7pm, UVic, Harry Hickman Bldg 105 Free Admission

A Propaganda System: How Canada’s Government, Corporations, Media and Academia Sell War and Exploitation reveals why most Canadians believe their country is a force for good in the world, despite a long history of supporting empire, racism and exploitation. The book details the vast sums Global Affairs Canada, Veterans Affairs and the Department of National Defence spend articulating a one-sided version of Canada’s foreign policy. With the largest PR machine in the country, the Canadian Forces promotes its worldview through a history department, university, journals, war commemorations, think tanks, academic programs and hundreds of public relations officers.

A Propaganda System traces the long history of government information control during war, including formal censorship, as well as extreme media bias on topics ranging from Haiti to Palestine, investment agreements...

Although this is another victory for justice the struggle continues until the blockade is fully ended, Guantanamo is returned to Cuba and the US stops assisting different organizations with millions of dollars to spread lies and have a regime change in Cuba.

Social Justice Film Night

This coming Thursday, October 20 Social Justice Film Night presents:UTOPIABy John Pilger150 mi.This controversial documentary film by acclaimed filmmaker John Pilger draws on his long association with Indigenous Australians. Utopia is Pilger’s investigation into Australia's colonial past and wealthy present. It sets out to break the stereotypes of the first people of Australia. Pilger travels to Darwin, then to Western Australia and to the outback of New South Wales, where he explores the high rate of Indigenous people imprisoned, the low average life expectancy, and the prevalence of preventable diseases and malnutrition among indigenous communities. Utopia is both a personal journey and a universal story of power and resistance, of how modern societies can be divided between those who conform and the dystopian world of those who do not.
Social Justice Film Night is on the 3rd Thursday of every month.Sponsored by the Victoria Friends of Cuba
