[evoz] Bill Doherty

Dear CASC friends and supporters, On October 1 family and friends will gather to remember the life of Bill Doherty. Bill was a stalwart, steadfast and committed activist. He was an active member of CASC from its beginning. Solidarity was central to Bill’s life as it was for Gudrun who died two years ago. Both were dear friends to many including Gerd and me. corrected info on the Dakota Access Pipeline event

Dear Friends of SJS,

ACTION: Solidarity With Standing Rock Sioux - No Dakota Access Pipeline

WHERE: TD Canada Trust; 1080 Douglas St (Douglas and Fort)

WHEN: Friday, Sep 23rd, 5-6:30PM

The Camp of the Sacred Stones and the Red Warrior Camp have called for #NoDAPL Global supportive Actions. TD Bank is one of the funders of the Dakota Access Pipeline. We are demanding that these banks and lenders to cut off all line of credit to the pipeline companies and to stop funding the DAPL.

The plan is to meet at TD at 5 pm with noise makers, signs and anything else to support a non-violent demonstration inside the bank. This will also be a great opportunity for anyone currently banking with TD to come out and close your bank account!

Have you heard of Petronas?

PM Justin Trudeau could approve the Petronas Pacific NorthWest liquefied fracked gas terminal as early as next week.

Send a message today to call on him to protect the salmon and defend our climate by rejecting this dangerous project.

Send Message

Would you believe me if I told you the government is about to approve a project that could destroy Canada’s second-largest salmon run?

Our partners in Northern BC are telling us that the federal government is preparing to approve Petronas' Pacific NorthWest liquefied fracked gas terminal, which is set to be built on Lelu Island - Canada’s last intact salmon estuary.1

To make matters worse, this project would become Canada’s single biggest point sources of greenhouse gas emissions, making it impossible for us to meet our international climate commitments.2,3

The good news is we can still stop this project. Close to 2,000 Leadnow community members already sent messages to the government calling on them to stop this project, and they helped delay it -- twice.4

Beautiful, secret gestures have their own way of making history.

Hey Jammers,

If you feel like doing something on the 5th anniversary of OWS this Saturday, then here’s a suggestion . . why not adopt the ‘play jazz’ mood and go prowling ... alone or with friends ... be open to everything and anything. If you feel like engaging with an interesting stranger then go ahead and do it . . . if you see an ATM that you want to leave a message on then go ahead and do it . . . if you feel like turning a bank window into a work of art then go ahead and do it . . . and if you want to paint a blackspot on your forehead and shuffle around like a zombie then just go ahead and do it.

Inside the courtroom

NationBuilder r1 Paov -- Intervenor group gives opening statements at BC Supreme Court

Yesterday, we gave our opening statements in B.C. Supreme Court.

In the opening, Alison Latimer, one of our fantastic lawyers, explained that the laws Brian Day’s plaintiffs are trying to strike down are the foundation of Canadian public health care. Without them, she argued, many of us could not afford care and we would wait longer for treatment.

For the first time, the court heard about Tom and Glyn, the two patients who are intervening in the Cambie Surgeries lawsuit with us. Both are living with chronic health conditions and they represent those...
