Standing up to heavily-armed Israeli goliath

Published on August 31, 2016

BDS movement is neither anti-Semitic nor anti-Israeli. It is anti-Israeli policy.

By Richard Deaton: The pro-Israel lobby and its cheerleaders like Colin Trewin (Guardian, August 26, 2016), choose to ignore history. Their bellowing about the BDS movement should tell us that it is increasingly successful and drawing blood. And well it should. It has gained traction and support in Canada, the US, Western Europe, and Scandinavia, including various levels of government, pension funds (including the largest in the US), unions, universities, and numerous NGOs.

The Palestinians are the people that history and the international community have forgotten. But Israel with the largest army in...

Video PremieWatch the first episode of The Boombox Collection series, featuring Boots Riley

Adbusters is proud to present the online premiere of The Boombox Collection: Boots Riley.

The Boombox Collection series is born out of a deep appreciation for the unsung pioneers of “working class” Hip Hop. Artists who have shaped our attitudes and perspectives of the world for nearly 20 years. Artists who have been steadfast in their choice not to rap about “money, power, and bitches”, and instead share their knowledge, wisdom, and life through themes that cut against the oppressive voice of the money-hungry, suit-and-tie controlled world of mainstream rap.

Public solutions to wait times

NationBuilder r1 Paov -- Surgeons in an operating room

Next week, Dr. Brian Day will be in court arguing that allowing doctors to charge whatever they want in for-profit clinics will make wait lists shorter.

Meanwhile, international evidence shows that for-profit care makes wait times longer for most people.

There are proven public system solutions that would dramatically shorten wait lists for everyone in B.C.
- but we need the Provincial Government to make reducing wait times a priority.[1]

Tell Premier Clark and Health Minister Lake: We need public solutions to wait times now!

Richmond Hospital cut wait times for hip and knee replacements from 20 months to 5 months simply by using two operating rooms,...

NationBuilder r1 Paov -- Help protect public health care

We’re 2 weeks away from the start of Brian Day’s lawsuit against Canadian public health care.

If Dr. Day wins this case, we’ll lose the public health care system everyone in Canada relies on.

Our legal team has prepared strong opening arguments in defence of fair, affordable health care. Now, we need your help to put our lawyers in court the first two weeks of the case.

Can you help cover the legal costs of the critical first two weeks of trial?

Brian Day’s alarming plan would make our health care system more like the...

They have been attempting to post comments that range from profane to ludicrous to supremacist to threatening. Please like the page and sign this petition which can also be accessed through the Sign Up button at the top of the Facebook page. The short video of the instore flash action, also on the FB page, has already garnered over 33,000 views.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) voted to implement an investment screen restricting church investments in corporations that profit from human rights abuses, including those against Palestinians. In doing so, they join eight other denominations that have economically aligned their actions with their principles.

We congratulate Isaiah 58, a group of concerned ELCA members who support justice for Palestinians and were the driving force behind this motion. We look forward to working with them and other allies to continue to align our faith with our actions. In addition to this investment screen, the ECLA voted to ask the U.S. government to end aid to Israel until it ceases all settlement creation.

Coverage denied

NationBuilder r1 A nine year old was denied extended health coverage by a private
insurance company.Paov --

Last week in New Brunswick, a private insurance company denied a nine-year-old boy extended health coverage because of his “build.” [1]

Fortunately in Canada, private insurance companies don’t get to decide who gets basic health care coverage. Everyone is covered by public insurance - regardless age, health standing, or income - and can access medically necessary care.

Brian Day wants to change that.

He’s leading a legal attack on our public health care system in an effort to bring US-style care to Canada. If Day wins, private insurance companies will be allowed to offer coverage -and deny it- for...
