Fortis Net Metering Update: Profit's not the Priority
In June, we described Fortis electric’s application to the Utilities Commission for permission to change its net metering tariff, including slashing the rate Fortis pays customers for year-end credit balances.
The issues in the review of the application are emerging more clearly. Interveners have tested Fortis’s application through information requests – 271 to be exact – and Fortis’s responses have added 167 pages to the record of evidence.
First, slashing the payout rate from 15.2 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 4.52 cents per kWh will, surprisingly, have little or no effect on most net metering customers. In the present system,...

CAIA Victoria Active Committee now has a scheduled meeting with the Cowichan Tribe regarding the Duncan billboard.
However since we had such a long period before we could get a hearing, we have been given a full refund of our funds for the rent of the billboard space. We will contemplate putting the billboard up at a later date. Summer is most desirable.
CAIA Victoria has now purchased a van to use as our own space to display a billboard sign. We have negotiated with a supporter to design the display. The van design submission will be presented at an August 20 pot luck picnic at Esquimalt Gorge Park (suggested 4 to 7 pm).
For all those that donated to the billboard fund, if you wish a refund of...

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture/gardening, home preservation of foodstuffs, raising livestock, and the small-scale production of clothing and craftwork for household use. Basically, taking care of one's owns needs instead of relying on industrial production and consumer culture. The modern homestead has many manifestations, from a backyard city garden patch to sprawling bucolic farm land. No matter where we live we can contribute, to some degree, to our daily sustenance needs. Homesteading is not defined by where we live, such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices we make.

Ethnic Cleansing of Area C - 60% of the West Bank,. Israel does this by destroying Palestinian homes, not allowing permits for any Palestinian, only Zionist homes, refusing to connect Palestinian homes to the water system, refusing Palestinians health care, and making sure there are no jobs for them.
