PAOV --
In December 2015, world leaders met in Paris to craft and sign the landmark Paris Agreement. Since then, we have seen even more science supporting an urgent need to curb global temperature rise and radically reduce carbon emissions worldwide. We have also seen a potentially promising Pan-Canadian Framework on climate change, and deeply concerning new leadership south of the border. For All these reasons and more, the Canadian Youth Delegation (CYD) is excited to be returning to COP to hold our government accountable to the climate action we all need and deserve.

Hey all you writers, artists and designers out there,
I am looking for alternatives. Every time I try to jump back into this world, I am disappointed.
How can I go on knowing that every time I engage with the capitalist-corporate machine I am contributing to environmental destruction, war, poverty and suffering? How can I sit back when the only way I can engage with people on the other side of the planet is by exploiting them?
Paov, how are you spending Earth Day this year?

Protecting our legacy, sustaining our future

Friend --
Recently the municipality of Saanich has lost an environmental
hero, visionary, conservationist, and educator, municipal councillor
Vic Derman. I join all Saanich residents in sending my heartfelt
condolences to his family and friends.
Vic was always a strong voice for a sustainable Saanich. He was one
of the cofounders of the land conservancy of BC, he was instrumental
in the protection of farmland, and a reliable voice for a green
future.
Vic’s passing has left a large hole in council and thrown his
legacy of environmental protection and sustainability in Saanich into
question. This legacy is too precious to be eroded. In this time of
grief, it is up to each of us to do whatever we can to honour Vic’s
legacy and fight for his dream of a greener, safer, more prosperous
future.
I have lived, studied, worked and farmed here in Saanich since my
childhood, raising my children here and working hard to build our
community. I have been an organic food grower at Madrona Farm for
thousands of Saanich residents. Vic’s vision for a sustainable future
resonates deeply with me.
That’s why I've worked with organizations including the Raincoast
Conservation Foundation, The Land Conservancy, and the Social
Environmental Alliance. It’s why I spearheaded the campaign to protect
local farms and stop the industrialization of the Blenkinsop Valley,
and it’s why I founded the Big Dream Farm Fund Society and the
Farmland Protection Coalition.
I believe that Vic Derman's legacy of environmental advocacy and
public service need to be protected and his vision grown to meet new
challenges.
I know we all have to do our part to build a community we can be
proud to call home. That is why I am announcing my candidacy for
election to Saanich Council, to continue building on Vic's inspiring
legacy of providing a strong, independent voice for a sustainable
Saanich. There is a lot of work ahead, I know that, but together I
truly believe that we can protect our precious legacies and sustain a
brighter future for our community.
I hope you will join me in this important work.
Sincerely,
Nathalie

I'm writing you with a quick update about the Cambie Surgeries Corp. trial: due to multiple procedural issues, the judge has agreed to adjourn the trial until September 5, 2017.
Brian Day's plaintiffs have been consistently unprepared in their submissions to the court and late to supply the rest of the parties with the information we need to prepare our responses. Therefore, the province (the Defendants) asked to adjourn so that things can move along more smoothly when we get back to court in September.
The idea is that the delay will give Brian Day's plaintiffs time to prepare the rest of their witnesses and submissions, and the province time to prepare accordingly. The parties will also sort out...

Please sign/share: 1. Petition to Minister Freeland; still looking for organizations to sign & to share/sign individually. This was based on suggestion the Canadian BDS Coalition put together a petition for organizations and individuals to sign, calling the Canadian government to accountability following the Israeli travel ban. It is based on calling for sanctions, using much of the language from the Green Party of Canada approved resolution. Canada Stop Our Complicity with The State of Israel Apartheid Behaviour https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexM44g5QdqT54IXDXhGiV-hIarplKR3ygMXBPR7HN4TFAWqw/viewform?c=0&w=1 2. Circulating this based on feedback to personal letter I wrote to Elizabeth May asking her to live out her own party’s policy—while written based on Holy Week Request, it is written to be signed by individuals of all and no religious affiliations. Hope you will be able to sign & share. Our Holy Week Request, Elizabeth May: Your Leadership calling for...

When the 13th amendment was ratified in 1865, its drafters left themselves a large, very exploitable loophole in the guise of an easily missed clause in its definition. That clause, which converts slavery from a legal business model to an equally legal method of punishment for criminals, is the subject of the documentary “13th.”
