Will you thank the UCC for standing for justice?

PAOV, have you heard the news? On Tuesday, the United Church of Christ voted to divest from companies that profit from Israel's occupation and boycott settlement products -- and everyone is talking about it. The vote has already been covered by the New York Times, Ha'aretz, U.S. News, and several other outlets. The UCC stands strong in their belief that justice must be pursued but they need to know that they have Jewish supporters behind them in case the backlash gets intense. We need to make sure UCC members know they're not alone in this. 6,000 JVP supporters like you have already signed our thank-you card -- will you add your name?

Raise your voice for old-growth forests next Tuesday, July 7
Dear Jane,
It’s time to stand up for one of Canada’s most incredible forests.
Last month we learned about plans for new clearcut logging in the central Walbran Valley, one of the last intact tracts of old-growth forest on Vancouver Island.
Since then, hundreds of you have written to BC’s Premier and Minister of Forests, asking them to reject these logging permits.
Next week, we’re holding a rally at the Ministry of Forests office to echo this demand!
WHEN:
Tuesday, July 7th at 12:00pm
WHERE:
BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources
780 Blanshard Street
Victoria, BC

Please share the Rally for the Walbran Valley event with your friends and family on Facebook!

Hey gang! We have a new free track for you today! Buffy Sainte-Marie is an innovator, trailblazer, an inspiration. She was one of the few positive indigenous figures growing up for people our age. We were really excited when she approached her to revisit her song "Working For The Government" and as we're in the Canada Day - 4th of July week, we thought it would be a good idea to give you this track. You can download it for free by visiting www.atribecalledred.com or stream it on Youtube. This is a good time to also thank everyone for their support at shows and for the Suplex EP. You guys have been amazing. Looking forward to more shows this summer!

Rally to Commemorate 2014 Gaza Massacre and the Media Complicity
Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 5:30pm
CBC – Corner of Hamilton & Georgia St
"Operation Protective Edge", the most recent Israeli massacre of Gazans, began on July 7, 2014 and ended on August 26, 2014. Over 2,200 Palestinians were killed, the vast majority civilians, by 6,000 air strikes and over 50,000 tank and artillery shells, four times the explosives used in Operation Cast Lead. According to Mary McGown, Chair of the UN Human Rights Council Commission on Gaza “the extent of the devastation and human suffering was unprecedented and will affect generations to come”.
We cannot allow this episode in 67 years of brutal occupation and violence to be forgotten.
Please join us.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Israel seizes Flotilla ship to Gaza and deports 2 Human Rights advocates to Canada
Two Canadians, Robert Lovelace and Kevin Neish, who were on board the Freedom Flotilla III boat Marianne, headed towards Gaza when it was seized by Israeli forces early Monday morning, are returning to Canada today. Israeli forces used an electric weapon against four Swedish crew members during their illegal seizure of vessel, which Israeli government sources described as “uneventful”. The two were held in an Israeli prison with seven other Flotilla participants from Sweden, Norway and Russia, until being transferred to Ben Gurion Airport late Wednesday. They are expected to land at Pearson International Airport at 6:55 pm,Thursday July 2.
Neish, a retired marine engineer from Victoria B.C., had been sailing with the Marianne since it left Sweden...

Friends,
Lat Sunday, June 28 a flotilla of four boats carrying humanitarian aid making their way towards Gaza was illegally stopped when Israeli Naval Forces forced their way onto the leading boat the Marianne of Gothenburg.
Various reports state that the Marianne seized by Israeli Forces has been towed to the port of Ashdod while the three remaining boats turned back.
At least two Canadians, Kevin Neish from Victoria, who many of us know and Robert Lovelace from the Ardoch Algonquin Nation of Ontario were among 20 others on the Marianne. There has been no contact with the people that were on board of the Marianne. We do not know what their conditions are or how they are being treated.
The boats were in international waters, broke no international laws and were on a humanitarian mission. This is another act of...

Join authors Nathalie Chambers, Robin Alys Roberts, and Sophie Wooding for the launch of Saving Farmland at Bolen Books in Victoria.
When Nathalie Chambers and her husband, David, first took over Madrona Farm, 27 acres on southern Vancouver Island with a deep history, they never thought their small-scale agricultural business would blossom into an international political act. As pressures from heirs, land developers and industrial farmers grew alongside their rows of organically produced food, the Chambers took action. Considered by many to be revolutionary and by some to be rebellious, their story opened many eyes to the future of food.'
