Flotilla to Gaza Urgent Appeal

Dear Friends of SJS,
Victoria Friends of Cuba calls for your support:

Friends,

Lat Sunday, June 28 a flotilla of four boats carrying humanitarian aid making their way towards Gaza was illegally stopped when Israeli Naval Forces forced their way onto the leading boat the Marianne of Gothenburg.

Various reports state that the Marianne seized by Israeli Forces has been towed to the port of Ashdod while the three remaining boats turned back.

At least two Canadians, Kevin Neish from Victoria, who many of us know and Robert Lovelace from the Ardoch Algonquin Nation of Ontario were among 20 others on the Marianne. There has been no contact with the people that were on board of the Marianne. We do not know what their conditions are or how they are being treated.

The boats were in international waters, broke no international laws and were on a humanitarian mission. This is another act of aggression...

Flotilla boat seized in international waters

to protest to your politicians click here

At 02:06AM today (Gaza time) the “Marianne” contacted Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and informed us that three boats of the Israeli navy had surrounded her in international waters, while sailing approximately 100NM from Gaza coast. After that we lost contact with the “Marianne” and at 05:11AM (Gaza time) the IDF announced that they had “visited and searched” Marianne. They had captured the boat and detained all on board “in international waters” as they admitted themselves. The only positive content in the IDF announcement was that they still recognize that there is a naval blockade of Gaza, despite Netanyahu’s government recent denial that one exists.

We have no reason to believe that Marianne’s capture was “uneventful”, because the last time the IDF said something like that, in 2012, the people on board the “Estelle” were badly tasered and beaten with clubs. Back in 2010,...

Together we will elect environmental leaders

r1 June 2015 | Donate | Leave a Legacy Facebook icon Twitter icon banner Together we will elect environmental leaders

Dear PAOV,

West Coast Environmental Law Association works hard to protect the environment through law. However, one of the barriers toward achieving this goal is a lack of environmental leadership in politics.

With the election around the corner we need to ensure that there are environmental leaders in Ottawa who know what needs to be done and how to do it.

That's why we are partnering with GreenPAC, a...

Just before 5pm today, Saturday, June 27, 2015, a van full of humanitarian aid for Cuba crossed the Canada/U.S. border, breaking the illegal, immoral and unjust U.S. blockade against Cuba! This great victory was accompanied by a loud, colourful and energetic rally at the Peace Arch border crossing, which had supporters of Cuba from both British Columbia and Washington State chanting, “Lift the Blockade on Cuba NOW! Abajo el Bloqueo!” as the van full of humanitarian aid entered the U.S. customs area. Our united voices ensured that the all of the humanitarian aid, including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, sewing machines, hand tools and sports equipment continued on the road to Cuba as part of the...

Today, June 27th 2015 (4 am in Gaza), four boats of the 2015 the Freedom Flotilla III set sail from their final European points of departure. Through nonviolent resistance they will challenge the illegal blockade of the Palestinian Gaza strip, which is running on its 9th year, sailing as always from international waters directly into Palestinian waters.

Dear CASC friends,

Last night at Cafe Simpatico, the group present asked CASC to send a message of solidarity, love and wishes for a safe and successful journey to Gaza to our friend and comrade, KEVIN NEISH.

I sent this message this morning as the Freedom Flotilla left Lebanon heading to Gaza.

“Dear Kevin, Everyone at Cafe Simpatico last night asked CASC to send our love, solidarity and wishes for a safe journey for you and all your fellow-sailors and that you reach Gaza safely. We hold you in our hearts and look forward to your return. In peace, Terry for CASC”

Background: A converted fishing trawler, the 'Marianne of Gothenburg' left Sweden in May to join the flotilla and has made numerous stops along its journey around Europe. Marianne is carrying solar panels that would help alleviate the serious problem of electricity in Gaza, as well .as...

Will you send a message of hope?

Take Action!

One year ago this week, something remarkable happened.

In June of 2014, our brothers and sisters in the Presbyterian Church made a brave choice: they voted at their General Assembly to divest the church from companies that profit from Israel’s illegal occupation.

Vote public health care in 2015

NationBuilder r1 British Columbia Health Coalition Election_LOGO_with_date_FINAL.jpgDear Paov --

We’re less than four months away from a federal election that could change Canadian public health care forever.

Lack of federal leadership on public health care has brought our system to a breaking point. It’s hard for many of us to get a family doctor. The Conservative government plans to cut 36 billion dollars from health care starting in 2017 [1]. The current federal government refuses to negotiate a new health agreement with the provinces [2], and Dr. Brian Day is trying to bring US-style care...

Hello Victoria friends!I hope you are all well.
This Saturday June 27, the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba is leaving Vancouver, crossing the U.S./Canada border to begin its journey down to Cuba! It would be great if you could join us at Peace Arch Park for the border crossing this year. We need your support again this year! I will be arranging a carpool from Victoria to Vancouver so if you would like to join us but need a ride please email or call me and we can arrange it.The email announcement for the border crossing is below.

Freedom Flotilla III

A Quebec postal worker joins the Freedom Flotilla III to break the blockade of Gaza

Christian Martel, a recently retired letter-carrier from the Quebec City area, left Quebec City’s Jean-Lesage International Airport on Wednesday 17th June to join the Freedom Flotilla III that is headed to Gaza. He is one of over fifty citizens from different countries, and he is joined by three other Canadians : Robert Lovelace, member of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, Kevin Neish, an activist from Victoria in British Columbia who is already on board the Marianne, which left Sweden several weeks ago, and Ehab Lotayef, an engineer and poet from Montreal, member of the steering committee for the Canadian Boat to Gaza and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
