Talking to 100 fossil fuel workers ASAP

Iron & Earth r1

Hi Paov,

Cutting to the chase, the Trudeau government is pursuing its Just Transition consultations. As they decide how to transition increasingly away from fossil fuels, we know the reality is that this could be either a smooth or rocky road ahead for people in the industry.

That’s why our number one priority is hearing from people from the industry ASAP.

We set a goal to speak to 100 fossil fuel workers so that we can hold the government to account.

This is why we’re asking everyone in our networks to share our sign-up form widely and help us get as many interviews to sign up as possible. How can you do that?

  • Forward this email, or
  • Post the sign-up link in your Facebook or Twitter feed

Thank you for helping us get this right.

From,

your friends at Iron & Earth

Death threats to healthcare workers

Content warning: death threats

PAOV — “It’s staggering to see public health personnel quit their jobs and being subjected to death threats during a pandemic.” Dr. Iris Gorfinkel is demanding the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario revise the protections in place for its members after the College failed to inform both the RCMP and an Ottawa doctor of a death threat. Dr. Nili Kaplan-Myrth, a physician who has been a vocal advocate for and supporter of the COVID-19 vaccine, was the target of a death threat sent to the College, but she was not informed of the letter for a week and a half. Dr. Gorfinkel will meet with the College of Physicians and Surgeons on Monday - you can show your support in this critical moment by signing the petition now.

Young bonobo eating some leaves

A,

A 20-year ban on industrial logging will soon be lifted in the Congo Basin, opening up the only home of endangered bonobos to even greater threats from deforestation.

Without their rainforest home, these gentle apes won't survive.

But there’s a surefire way to save these bonobos: secure official protection for 2 million acres of this rainforest, and defend it from loggers.

And we can do this for just $1 per acre!

If enough of us chip in $88, our friends at the Bonobo Conservation Initiative can start securing tens of thousands of acres of critical bonobo habitat -- can you help save these bonobos?

If you’ve saved your payment information with SumOfUs, your donation will go through immediately.

The C-IRG: the resource extraction industrys

by Molly Murphy and Research for the Front Lines Jan 5, 2022 24 min read

To protect the Earth and climate that we all depend on, we must defund the police. We should start by defunding and dismantling the Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG) – a secretive arm of the RCMP that works directly in service of extractive industries in British Columbia, including oil and gas, logging, and fish farming.

The C-IRG is brought in to enforce injunctions, take down blockades, and arrest land defenders. Since its inception in 2017, the C-IRG has been paid through the public purse to protect corporate interests....

We have big plans for 2022

Join us on January 20th for an important call r1

Paov,

I hope that over the last few weeks, you’ve had some time to relax, recover and reflect on the huge year that was 2021. Because, this year, we have our work cut out for us.

In a few weeks, the House of Commons will return with some big questions to answer when it comes to tackling the climate crisis. Questions like, will they actually pass the Just Transition Act they promised all the way back in 2019?

We intend to make sure the answer is yes. That’s why on January 20th we’re teaming up with our friends at the Council of Canadians to announce our plan to make sure the Just Transition Act is a top priority for this government.

We know the era of fossil fuels is ending. And as the transition speeds up, we must ensure workers and communities are supported. Join our mass organizing call on January 20th to kickstart the push to pass a Just Transition Act before the end of 2022.

On the call, we’ll lay out our plan to win the kind of climate solutions that truly meet the scale and urgency of the crises we...
