G7 summit 'free expression area' will be almost 2kms from where Trudeau & Trump are meeting
The RCMP has confirmed that a so-called 'free speech area' will be located in 'a vacant lot' beside the Musée de Charlevoix which is almost 2 kilometres from the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, the luxury hotel where the Justin Trudeau, Donald Trump and the other G7 leaders are scheduled to meet on June 8-9.

The meeting that could stop the Bayer Monsanto merger

I've just been invited to represent SumOfUs members like you in a meeting on Tuesday with the EU Commissioner who’s deciding whether the Bayer-Monsanto merger goes through.

I need your help to decide exactly what I should tell her.

Tell me what I should say

A,

I’m meeting this Tuesday with EU Commissioner Vestager -- who’s deciding whether the Bayer-Monsanto merger gets the greenlight.

This is an absolutely massive opportunity for us to throttle the deal once and for all.

Margrethe Vestager needs to know that people like you and me are against the deal, which could make one mega corporation controlling our food supply from farm to plate.

I’m...

A tiny town fighting Nestlé

Osceola Township is in an ongoing battle to prevent Nestlé from taking their precious water.

As they head into the next legal battle, will you send a message of support to Osceola Township for their incredible work?

Send a thank you message

A,

Over the last several months we’ve told you about Osceola Township’s fight to protect its water from Nestlé’s greed. Over and over again SumOfUs members answered the call to support this tiny township in its David and Goliath battle with Nestlé.

When a judge ruled in favour of Nestlé, Osceola Township decided to appeal and continue to protect its water. And thanks to caring members...

PM Trudeau Electoral Reform Accountability Campaign

Dear Friend,

We hope all is well and thank you for your ongoing support of Democracy Watch’s campaigns to make Canada the world’s leading democracy!

Unfortunately, Prime Minister Trudeau broke his 2015 election promise to make a key democratic change – his promise to change the voting system.

Canada’s election law, called the Canada Elections Act, says in subsection 482(b) that it is illegal for anyone to make a false claim to try to convince voters to vote for any election candidate.

Day! Of! Action!

OpenMedia r1

Paov,

February 28 is the day we put an end to Bell’s dangerous censorship plan.

The call to the CRTC to create a website blocking system under the guise of guarding against piracy is so wrong-headed, and frightening to freedom of expression1 and Net Neutrality2 in Canada that more than a dozen organizations have joined us to call for action3 — comments to the CRTC — in a nationwide Day of Action on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

A new coalition...

Gaza: Who or What Has a Right to Exist?

Judith Deutsch

Gaza: An Inquest into its Martyrdom (Verso, 2018), is an extraordinary book. It is also a difficult book to read. In his preface, Norman Finkelstein writes that this work "has been a painstaking, fastidious undertaking born of a visceral detestation of falsehood, in particular when it is put in the service of power and human life hangs in the balance." He writes that "Gaza is about a Big Lie composed of a thousand, often seemingly abstruse and arcane, little lies. The objective of this book is to refute that Big Lie by exposing each of the little lies." His meticulous inquest into Israel’s atrocities and the moral depravity within humanitarian institutions demands answers about...

The Crisis of Social Democracy: From Norway to Europe

The Crisis of Social Democracy: From Norway to Europe

Asbjørn Wahl

The crisis of social democracy is being debated throughout Europe. Several of the historically strong labour parties have almost been wiped out in elections while others seem unable to recover from defeat. In the last few years, a number of social democratic parties have ended up with only one-digit election results (Greece, Ireland, Iceland, The Netherlands, France), while others have experienced major setbacks. The Norwegian Labour Party, for example, has experienced two of its worst elections -- 2001 and 2017 -- since the 1920s. Significant parts of the trade union movement believe that the party made serious blunders in what should have been an easy victory during last year’s parliamentary elections.

There is...

Dangerous attack

Trudeau could be on the verge of launching a dangerous attack on our democratically-elected BC government -- all to force through Kinder Morgan’s dirty pipeline and tankers. [1]

It all started when John Horgan’s NDP government announced common-sense steps to protect BC waters from oil spills. Alberta’s Premier blew a gasket, demanding Ottawa step in this week to kneecap the BC NDP government. Now, top officials from Trudeau’s government are hinting action against BC is coming. [2-3]

With your help we can take our message right to Trudeau’s doorstep. I’ve been on the phone all morning reserving ad space near Parliament Hill. We could put a giant billboard right outside Trudeau’s office, flood Ottawa with online ads, and even plaster your message inside the bathrooms of the bars where Trudeau’s staff meet for after-work drinks -- but only if we can raise $7,000 in the next 36 hours.

But Trudeau could take action to force the pipeline through any day now, so we can’t afford to wait. Will you chip in right now so we can get these ads up this week?

Shockwaves are rippling throughout the entire country. On Friday, an all-white jury fully acquitted Gerald Stanley of any responsibility in the death of Colten Boushie, a 22-year-old Indigenous man shot with a gun at point-blank range. [1]

What happened to Colten Boushie seems like it could have happened in rural Mississippi in 1962. But this happened just a few days ago, in rural Saskatchewan, in 2018.

Colten Boushie’s family and other First Nations groups are in Ottawa this week calling for an immediate appeal of the verdict, as well as an inquiry into the administration of justice in the Boushie case. [2]

A massive petition will show federal and provincial Justice Ministers that there is cross-country support for these demands. Will you show your support for Colten Boushie’s family by signing this petition calling for an immediate appeal and inquiry?
