Dogwood News This Week: every day is Christmas for oil & gas

Facebook AV/VR r1 Dogwood Your place for
news and action Saturday December 3, 2022 We’re headed into a time of year often referred to as ‘the season of giving’. But B.C. doesn’t limit its giving to the month of December. We hand over our tax money, fresh water, land and future prospects to gas companies 365 days a year.

There’s seemingly no end to our generosity! According to our friends at Stand, B.C. is about to double the amount of freshwater we hand over to fracking companies, bumping up to 10 billion litres a year.

No need to include a receipt, they won’t be returning our gift. Frackers use that water to extract methane, permanently polluting it and disposing it in a way that takes it out of Earth’s...

An amusing portrait of a group of orangutans, including two mothers with their young child, enjoying a snack of sunflower seeds.

Sylvia,

We've been so successful using shareholder action to get companies to change their bad behaviour...that they're trying to shut the whole program down!

After a SumOfUs shareholder resolution helped force Apple to publish its first-ever human rights policy, the US stock regulator made a new rule -- anyone who wants to bring this kind of resolution will need to hold thousands of shares...and companies are setting VERY early deadlines to buy them!

They're trying to silence everyone but the richest shareholders. But Sylvia, we can beat them at their own game.

We already bought shares in giants like Apple, Nestle, and Bayer Monsanto. Now if 5000 people reading this email chip in the cost of a coffee, SumOfUs can buy enough shares in Procter & Gamble to have our say at its AGM, ratcheting up the pressure over rampant deforestation and human rights abuses in its palm oil...

Amazon returns

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the busiest shopping days of the year. More online purchases means more returned products, many of which will end up in a landfill.

Carole started this petition after learning that millions of Amazon returns are destroyed each year, having a disastrous impact on the planet. Will you join Carole in urging Amazon to redistribute their unsold goods, instead of sending them to landfill?

We're so close. Will you donate $5?

We’re more than $35,000 short of our Giving Tuesday goal of $75,000. Every donation before midnight will be matched 100%, so there couldn’t be a better time to give. But if we fall short, there won’t be another opportunity like this until next year.

We know your inbox is probably full with Giving Tuesday fundraising requests, so we’re going to keep this short.

With just eight hours left before our midnight deadline, we’re still more than $35,000 short of our Giving Tuesday goal of $75,000.

All Giving Tuesday donations are matched 100 percent, so there couldn’t be a better time to give. But if we fall short, there won’t be another opportunity like this until next year.

So please, if you value the independent, investigative journalism of The Intercept, help us reach our goal and make a donation and claim...

Giving Tuesday is today!

This is a test r1

Dear Friend,

We are only a few hours into our Giving Tuesday campaign, and 6 of you stepped up and contributed $1,326.00 towards our 18th Annual Youth Conference.

We need another 36 supporters to join us at $100 each. Will you make a donation today to help us reach our $5,000 goal?

DONATE TODAY

As the Communications and Outreach Coordinator, I see the impact of our Annual Youth Conference firsthand. I see students leaving a workshop inspired. I hear from teachers every year telling us how much they've appreciated the insight and expertise of our speakers.

Changes often start with just a conversation. Last year, we led over 120 students into important discussions such as housing justice, employment rights and organizing skills. We can’t wait to continue having these critical conversations this year.

We have very good news to share

This match is only available today, Giving Tuesday, so please don’t put it off. Make a donation right now and help support the one-of-a-kind investigative journalism of The Intercept.

We have some very good news to share.

Yesterday, we announced our ambitious Giving Tuesday goal of $75,000. This morning, we’re thrilled to announce that a generous donor has committed to match every donation we receive on Giving Tuesday.

This is a big deal. Reader donations are a key part of how we fund our nonprofit newsroom, and Giving Tuesday is one of the most important fundraising days of the year. So it’s critically important that we reach our goal.

And now, thanks to this generous pledge to match every donation, every donation we receive will be worth twice as much. If you give $5, we’ll get $10. And if you give $50, we’ll...

The dirty little secret of nonprofit journalism

We don’t hide our journalism behind a paywall. But only 1 percent of The Intercept’s readers ever make a donation. This Giving Tuesday, can you chip in?

The Intercept’s membership program was started based on the crazy idea that readers would voluntarily donate to support the kind of independent investigative journalism that the corporate media simply won’t do.

And so far, that bet has paid off. Your donations have been a key source of funding that’s allowed us to deepen and expand our reporting without fealty to any politician or party.

But the success of our membership program conceals a dirty little secret: Only 1 percent of The Intercept’s readers ever make a donation.

So today we’re asking you to join the 1 percent of readers who donate by making a Giving Tuesday donation — which will be MATCHED...

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday

This is a test r1

Dear Friend,

For 17 years, the BCCLA has hosted our annual Youth Conference, bringing together over 2000 high school students to talk about important issues such as workers' rights, free expression, and Indigenous law.

We are very excited to announce that, for the first time since 2019, the BCCLA is hosting our Youth Conference in person in 2023!

Tomorrow, November 29th, is Giving Tuesday. We want to raise $5,000 tomorrow so we can cover essential logistic costs such as venue booking, speaker honorariums and any accommodations to students' accessibility needs.

Will you make a donation today or tomorrow so we can bring our next Youth Conference to life?

I will support the next generation of advocates today
