A,
Canadians pay the highest cell phone bills and one of the most expensive home internet prices in the world – and it’s about to get a lot worse if we don’t speak out now.
The telecom industry is already ruled by the monopoly of Rogers, Bell, and Telus – and now Rogers and Shaw are proposing a $26-billion merger which will mean even higher prices and less options for Canadian consumers.
But we still have time to act – today, the Canadian competition tribunal will begin looking over the Roger / Shaw merger, and if we urgently flood the members with messages, we can show them that people across Canada are against the deal.
Tell the competition tribunal: Canadians say no Shaw/Rogers merger!
Original Email from this summer:
This summer, Rogers left millions of Canadians without cellphone service, internet, ability to use debit cards, and call 911.
The outage is a direct result of Rogers being one of three companies that have a monopoly over our telecommunications service.
And that’s not all – year after year, Canadians pay more for their wireless bill than every other country in the world. The cause: there...

Nestlé

A,
Nestlé does terrible things faster than we can campaign against it: illegally dumps its waste, floods the planet with cheap, single-use plastic, poisons kids with contaminated food, buries anyone that tries to stop it under lawsuits – and that's just the beginning.
It's so much that it can feel hard to know where to start. But we have a plan.
Over the next few months, we’re going to hit Nestlé harder than ever before. That means paying for more stunts to grab headlines, research to expose Nestlé's role in the plastics crisis, more support for more people caught in legal battles with Nestlé – like we helped Didier Thouvenin – we won't stop until we win.
We've built a dedicated team to take on Nestlé at every turn, in multiple countries. Now we just need your help to pull it off. Every single donation will go towards delivering one of our most ambitious campaigning efforts ever to make Nestlé clean up its...

Your place for
news and action Saturday November 5, 2022
The energy in the room at last night’s post-NDP leadership race town hall was palpable – even if it was a ‘Zoom room.’ The panelists had so many insights to offer, the chat was on fire, the ideas were flowing, and it felt like folks could have carried on all night.
If you missed it or want to share with your friends and family, we’ve posted a recording of the full event on YouTube.
Last night’s electric atmosphere is a reflection of the fast and furious leadership race itself: the explosion of inspiration and organizing that brought thousands of new members into the...

A,
Look at them.

These are the CEOs of two of the biggest insurance giants on the planet: Lloyd’s and Chubb. Why am I bringing them up you may wonder?
Because a brand new report from our partners Insure Our Future just scored them as two of the top enablers of fossil fuel projects driving climate chaos.
Despite five decades of climate warnings, Lloyd’s CEO John Neal and Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg continue to sponsor the reckless expansion of fossil fuel production. Yet we know, without insurance, there would be no fossil fuel projects.
One of the biggest industry events is happening this week. They will surely be using this as an opportunity to brag about their “leadership”, let’s use this as an opportunity to bring them back down to earth: we won’t back down until they follow their peers and end all support for oil and gas expansion....

Maya Train to Court

A, we are planning a petition delivery very soon, and we need as many signatures as we can get to convince the Mexican Supreme Court to take on the case of the Maya Train.
Despite all the criticism the Maya Train is receiving, including from UN bodies, high-profile international organisations and civil society in Mexico, the Mexican government is clear: they want to continue with the train at all costs.
Going to the Mexican Supreme Court is our best bet to stop this project for good, and protect the rights of Indigenous communities and the environment.
Will you please join 60,000 people and add your name, so we can take the Maya Train to court?
The Maya Train is being built at all costs – communities are being evicted from their lands and native species are under threat.
We need to stop this!
Sign here to tell the Mexican Supreme Court to take up the Maya Train case.

Trudeau is skipping the UN climate summit
- Details

Paov,
The annual UN climate summit starts in 3 days, and despite this being a pivotal moment for climate action, Prime Minister Trudeau doesn’t plan to be there.1
Leaders from other high emitting nations like the US, UK, France, Germany and Brazil will all attend as the world races to tackle the climate emergency at the speed and scale required. Trudeau’s snub sends a strong message that he is still dodging his responsibility to deliver critical climate action.
Trudeau may say his government is doing enough, but we know his track record. That’s why we need to make sure he feels the pressure here in Canada by shaping the media narrative surrounding the climate summit. We’re using a new digital tool to make our voices heard in local and national newspapers across the country with op-eds calling on Trudeau to tax Big Oil’s excess profits and fund a rapid, just transition to 100% clean energy.

Dear Friend,
This October, Canada’s sex work regime was challenged before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Canadian Alliance for Sex Work Law Reform v Canada. The BCCLA intervened in this case to argue that sex work laws continue to violate sex workers’ section 7 Charter rights.
This latest challenge comes nearly a decade after Canada v Bedford, a 2013 case which spurred the creation of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (PCEPA). At the time, the BCCLA wrote that the law was flawed and warned that PCEPA would almost certainly be put before the courts to guarantee the rights and safety of marginalized and vulnerable individuals.
The BCCLA stands with the coalition of sex worker-led organizations and current and former sex...

Paov --
First Name/Friend,
Hinton, Alberta might not be on everyone’s radar, but we have been working closely in the small resource town and meeting incredible people.
Like many towns in Alberta, Hinton has a history as a resource-based economy. It also has seen first-hand the economic highs and lows, and environmental impacts on the community.
That’s why we’re so proud to work with local resident Jazmine Larocque to speak with residents about a transitioning economy, their concerns and interests, and what they’re hoping to see in the years ahead.
You can read about Jazmine’s recent experiences in the community here.
Jazmine will also be leading our second community conversation in Hinton. These powerful sessions are an important opportunity to hear directly from residents about what’s on their mind when it comes to economy, industry, and community.
