Hi Friend,
During my time working at the BCCLA, I’ve heard from various supporters about how much they are concerned about government overreach, police complaints and oversight, and people being educated on their rights.
For over 60 years, the BCCLA has been taking on issues like these all thanks to your passionate care and our shared drive for a better future.
For another 60 years and beyond, we will strive to continue to tackle systemic issues with bold solutions. From educating the public, advancing law reform, and litigating at all levels of court, we are committed to justice and a shared future based on equality and inclusion.
Will you become a member today so we can make our future come true?

Great news, Paov:
We hit our End of Fiscal Year fundraising goal and as a result, we head into the next twelve months in a very strong position to run the kind of groundbreaking climate campaigns that can — and will — end the era of fossil fuels.
If you were one of the people who made a donation to help us hit our goal, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. If not, that's okay! We are all growing our climate movement in the ways we can.
As a way to say thank you for all you do, I'd like to send you a token of our appreciation on behalf of all of us here at 350.org. Please accept this small gift, a sticker inspired by the Tax Big Oil campaign 350 Canada just launched. I hope you’ll enjoy using your sticker to bring the message to your community and start some conversations about climate justice.
Can I send you the limited edition "Tax Big Oil" sticker today? You can put it on your water bottle, laptop, or anywhere you'd like.

Just a decade ago, Cairo’s Tahrir Square was synonymous with a hopeful, youth-led movement for liberation and democracy. Today, as Egypt prepares to host next month’s United Nations climate summit, journalists are routinely arrested and thousands of political prisoners languish behind bars.
As the world gets hotter, basic freedoms are under ever greater assault around the globe.
Tomorrow, Naomi Klein and Mohammed Rafi Arefin will moderate a conversation with Sanaa Seif, sister of one of Egypt’s highest profile political prisoners Alaa Abd El-Fattah, as well as Omar Robert Hamilton, Sharif Abdel Kouddous, and Bill McKibben.

Paov,
It seems like life is getting harder for everyone these days. With one notable exception.
The oil and gas industry is expected to make US$4 trillion in 2022, far exceeding their profits from previous years1. This comes at a time when nearly 6 million Canadians are struggling to put food on their tables2, and while communities across Atlantic Canada deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, a storm supercharged by the climate crisis Big Oil created.
Meanwhile, even as the cost of oil drops, these companies keep gouging customers with record-breaking gas prices3. We know where that cash is going and it isn’t good. A new analysis by the Pembina Institute makes it clear that Canadian oil and gas companies are spending essentially none of their record profits on implementing their “net zero” promises4.
We clearly can’t count on Big Oil to invest in a better future out of the goodness of their own hearts. It’s time to make polluters pay their fair share.

PAOV — Tomorrow, petition starter William will sit down with the Northwest Territories health minister and the territorial government to ask them to provide free access to the HIV prevention medication PrEP. PrEP reduces the risk of contracting HIV from sex by 99%. The Northwest Territories does not cover PrEP and it can cost up to $250 a month out of pocket. HIV rates in Canada are rising. There is also an unprecedented syphilis outbreak in the territory and experts say that a syphilis infection can make it easier for HIV to be transmitted due to genital inflammation or lesions. If you think that all Canadians should have access to preventative medication, sign William’s petition in this critical moment.

A,
We've been so successful using shareholder action to get companies to change their bad behaviour, that they're trying to shut the whole program down!
After a SumOfUs shareholder resolution forced Apple to publish its first-ever human rights policy, the US stock regulator made a new rule: anyone who wants to bring this kind of resolution will need to hold thousands of shares...and companies are setting VERY early deadlines to buy them!
They're trying to silence everyone but the richest shareholders. But A, we can beat them at their own game.
We've already bought shares in Apple, Google, Facebook, and Bayer Monsanto. Now if 5000 people reading this email chip in the cost of a coffee, SumOfUs can buy shares in Nestlé to have our say at its AGM -- ratcheting up the pressure over it stealing water from communities worldwide…and helping choke the ocean with disposable plastic.
For the next 24 hours, we will use everything you give to generate...

Peace Brigades International-Canada Making Space for Peace
I hope you can join us for our upcoming webinar on Tuesday October 11 at 2 pm ET to hear social leaders from the community of San Luis de Palenque, Colombia talk about their experiences with Toronto-based Frontera Energy.
To register, click here.
After protesting against the company over social, environmental and infrastructure concerns, eight community members were arrested in a pre-dawn military raid that involved a Black Hawk helicopter landing on their farmyards.
Notably, that happened after the company signed $1-million-plus protection agreements with the military.
That lead UN Special Rapporteur Michel Forst to express his concern about “the apparent connection between Frontera Energy, the army’s 16th brigade and the Attorney General’s Support Office in this criminalization.”
While this happened in November 2018, the social leaders face ongoing criminalization and will be in court this coming October 3-6...

I’m going to be honest: I don’t like asking for money, and I know you probably don’t like being asked.
But with just 8 hours left to reach The Intercept’s September fundraising goal, I want to make sure you know what’s at stake.
Without The Intercept, who will break through the Pentagon’s propaganda to provide critical analysis and independent reporting on U.S. militarism?
Without The Intercept, who will take on the truly difficult investigations — the ones that require costly technology and legal expertise — to pull back the curtain on corporate and political corruption?
This goal is real. We budgeted to raise...
