A,
Beekeepers are finding a carpet of dead bees where hives used to live – and it's about to get much worse.
Bayer and Syngenta are using an “emergency” loophole in the law to try and dismantle the progress we've made on banning neonics in Europe, and now fields are again drenched in these toxic pesticides.
But we could close this bee-killing loophole!
Right now, local bee-defenders are preparing to sue against these fake "emergencies" and make governments enforce the ban. If everyone reading this chips in the cost of a jar of honey, we could raise the funds they need to fight to close this bee-killing loophole – can you chip in to help?

Your place for news and action
Dogwood came under fire this week for encouraging our supporters to sign up for a BC NDP membership. News outlets report top brass are up in arms at the thought of new people joining their party so they can vote on who will be the next premier.
We had multiple conversations with Elections BC to make sure we were following the rules. They confirmed that, like unions and churches, we are free to mobilize...

PAOV — The Northwest Territories does not currently cover pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), an HIV prevention drug, despite rising HIV cases across the country. PrEP costs up to $250 a month in the territory without insurance, which petition starter William says puts the drug out of reach for those most at risk of contracting HIV. If you think that all Canadians should have access to HIV prevention drugs, sign the petition now.

1,337 have signed William Gagnon’s petition. Let’s get to 1,500!

Hi A,
Have you seen this? Head&Shoulders and Herbal Essences shampoo are made with palm oil linked to the destruction of the Leuser ecosystem, the organgutan capital of the world. 30,000 SumOfUs members have signed the petition to urge cosmetics giant Procter&Gamble to clean up its slate -- their biggest shareholder meeting is coming up soon, so will you join?
Palm oil in your shampoo? Yes. Worse actually, forest destruction and climate chaos.
All thanks to Procter and Gamble’s repeated inaction and complicity in the worsening climate crisis. But P&G’s biggest meeting of the year is in a couple of weeks so if we up the pressure now, we can force change in the palm oil industry.
How flow can you go?

Update re Saudi boycott

Hi A!
Just a quick update about the Saudi campaign - after 60,000 of us signed the petition and sent tweets, a prominent technologist from the group Data for Black Lives decided to boycott the event.
The CEO, Yeshimabeit Milner, was fully intending to speak on a panel at the summit, but decided to stand with our community and speak out against Saudi Arabia’s rights abuses instead.
Here’s an excerpt from her statement explaining why she's boycotting the event:
We refuse to sanitize or rebrand violence for the purpose of access, power, or profit. We cannot support AI convenings in a country that in 2017 became the first ever to grant legal personhood to a robot, before allowing human women to drive. When we say No More Data Weapons or no Fascist AI, and when we stand in solidarity with Google employees demanding No Tech for Apartheid, we mean it.
As young Black people from displaced and dispossessed communities, it may look foolish to refuse money and reject opportunities like this to scale our reach and work. But it was wisdom and diligence that got us here, and by wisdom and diligence, we will persist.
No platform is worth it if it means our integrity, dignity, and ability to...

A,
The UN is pleading for help to secure the last $12 million it needs to begin the rescue operation for a decaying oil tanker off the coast of Yemen – and prevent an oil spill four times worse than the Exxon Valdez.
Soon, high winds and volatile currents will increase the risk of disaster.
But there's still time for us to build up a citizen clean up fund, and use it to demand our governments chip in the rest.
Together we can help the UN get the remaining money they need to start the clean up straight away. Can you chip in before it's too late?

The Maya Train is being built at all costs – communities are being evicted from their lands and native species are under threat.
We need to stop this!
Sign here to tell the Mexican Supreme Court to take up the Maya Train case.
A,
The disastrous Maya Train can be stopped!
Our partners Kanan Human Rights have a winnable plan: they are taking the Maya Train to court for not fulfilling its Environmental Impact Assessment.
But not just any court; to the Mexican Supreme Court which is the court with more authority in the country and the one that can do a deeper analysis of this deeply problematic and colonial project.
They need international public support to make their case heard so that the Supreme Court takes the case on.

A,
Across East Africa elite rangers are deploying to the world’s worst poaching hotspots, training and equipping local communities with the skills and gear they need to stop the slaughter of endangered wildlife.
1,900 rangers trained by this elite group have helped reduce poaching to almost zero in the areas they protect.
But poaching is on the rise again everywhere else, and there are thousands of animals that need protection. That's why the team behind this amazing project is asking for your help now to train twice as many rangers – and save twice as many endangered animals from deadly poachers.
In just two weeks, 11 black rhinos were found slaughtered – so every moment counts.
A, can you chip in to help eradicate poaching hotspots?

Poilievre could be Prime Minister

Paov,
Pierre Poilievre just decisively won the Conservative party leadership contest. That means a pipeline-pushing, anti-climate, far-right politician could be next in line to be Prime Minister, right in the middle of a make-or-break decade for climate action.
Worsening wildfires and floods are harming communities across the country, skyrocketing inflation is making life harder for almost everyone, and Trudeau isn’t acting on either crisis with nearly enough urgency. People are losing faith that the Liberals care about their daily lives1 and Poilievre could ride this wave of anger into power.
The best way to fight back is with bold Just Transition legislation that tackles the climate crisis and improves everyday peoples’ lives at the same time. That’s why we’re calling for a Just Transition Act that includes a Green Jobs Guarantee, invests directly in the workers and communities most affected by the energy transition ahead, and moves at the rapid pace climate science demands.

Ben & Jerry's made a historic stance for Palestinian rights. But their parent company Unilever has made a backroom deal to try to reverse this decision. Call on Unilever to stop its betrayal of Ben & Jerry’s and stop profiting from illegal settlements.
A,
We have some good news and bad news in our campaign to push international companies to stop being complicit in Israel’s apartheid regime.
The good news: General Mills, the parent company of Pillsbury, Cheerios, and Haagen-Dazs, quietly joined Ben & Jerry’s on the right side of Palestinian justice and divested from its factory built on stolen Palestinian land. And it's all thanks to tens of thousands of SumOfUs members like you who signed petitions and emailed execs leading to SumOfUs staff meeting with high-level staff at General Mills.
The bad news: Unilever, Ben & Jerry’s parent company, has made a backroom deal to continue selling ice cream in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
