PAOV — Ahmed is a family doctor who knows first-hand the detrimental effects the current physician shortage is having on Canadians. More than 5 million Canadians lack access to a primary care physician. Internationally trained doctors could help ease pressure on the healthcare system and Ahmed is calling on Canada to rapidly integrate more of them so more Canadians can have access to a family doctor. If you think internationally trained doctors should be called on to help with Canada’s struggling healthcare system, sign now.

My name is Roger Hodge, and I am writing to you as The Intercept’s new acting editor-in-chief.
I’ve been with The Intercept for seven years, and I can honestly say that this is the most financially precarious moment our newsroom has ever faced.
The Intercept has always been a collective endeavor, and your generosity has enabled us to expand and deepen our reporting at a time when far too many news outlets have shrunk or gone out of business entirely.
But investigative journalism has always been expensive, and virtually all of our costs are rising with inflation. That’s why, with just 30 hours left before...

Special Edition
Tomorrow is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. This annual event is held in September to honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Tomorrow, all Canadians are invited to reflect on concrete actions for reconciliation and recognition of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, their history, rights, cultures and languages.

Hey Paov,
Parliament has been back in session for just two weeks and already the climate emergency has forced its way to the top of the agenda. Last week Hurricane Fiona devastated communities from Puerto Rico to Port-aux-Basques. Now Hurricane Ian is causing widespread flooding in Florida. These monster hurricanes are the direct result of climate inaction. For far too long, the fossil fuel industry has spread denial and delayed progress without any consequences. Only the federal government can hold them accountable. And only a people-powered movement can make them do it.
All month we’ve been flooding Trudeau with thousands of messages demanding bold action to stop fossil fuel expansion and ensure a rapid, just transition to 100% clean energy. The submission deadline is tomorrow. Paov, can you spare one minute to help us send a final wave of messages from across the country?
We still have time to prevent a future where climate disasters like Hurricane Fiona become the norm. But only if we take decisive action now. Can we count on you to help?
In solidarity,
Emma

I’m going to be honest: I don’t like asking for money, and I know you probably don’t like being asked.
But with just two days left to reach The Intercept’s September fundraising goal, I want to make sure you know what’s at stake.
Without The Intercept, who will break through the Pentagon’s propaganda to provide critical analysis and independent reporting on U.S. militarism?
Without The Intercept, who will take on the truly difficult investigations — the ones that require costly technology and legal expertise — to pull back the curtain on corporate and political corruption?
This goal is real. We budgeted to raise...

Let's buy and protect this forest!

A,
There’s an incredible place in Colombia where you can find snow-capped mountains, prehistoric rainforests, and crystal clear rivers that run right into the Caribbean Sea! And this week we can help buy and protect it...forever.
The Indigenous communities of Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria have lived on this land for centuries, but it’s now under critical threat from mining, tourism, and urbanization.
Our partner, Rainforest Trust, is working hand-in-hand with them to have their Indigenous-owned land added to a National Park, giving it the highest protection possible under Colombian law. But to do it the government says they also need to buy more than a thousand acres of adjoining forest -- and for that, they need our help!
Last year we helped buy and protect a critical ecosystem in Indonesia…now we can do it in Colombia.
If 5000 of us chip in the cost of a cup of coffee in the next 24 hours, Rainforest Trust has donors offering a 2x match on...

After Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, hackers uncovered a massive trove of internal Russian government and corporate documents that could contain explosive new revelations about Kremlin corruption and the Putin regime.
We’re talking about 14 terabytes of data — an enormous quantity of information that could take months or even years to fully dig through.
Few news organizations in the world are equipped to tackle an investigation like this, and fewer still have the courage to risk retribution from these kinds of powerful forces.
But this is exactly what The Intercept was founded for.
A surprise project of this scope wasn’t factored into our budget for the year, and that makes it even more essential that we meet our September membership campaign goal of...

Palm oil

A,
Thanks again for holding big brands like Mondelez and Procter & Gamble accountable for sourcing palm oil from bad producers. Now let's take this fight to Twitter and publicly call out P&G right before its biggest annual meeting -- we know bad social media publicity is poison right before a big party!
P&G claims to be a sustainability leader, but the truth is: the palm oil it buys for Head & Shoulders shampoo, Crest toothpaste or Tide detergent is linked to Indigenous land grabs, deforestation and fueling the climate crisis. The last thing its CEO wants for P&G's annual meeting in October is noise and bad publicity …
…so, let’s give them *exactly that*. More than 67,000 SumOfUs members have already signed the petition urging P&G to stop sourcing bad palm oil from producers that bulldoze the last rainforest on Earth where orangutans, rhinos, elephants and tigers roam free. Now let's ramp up the pressure and send P&G a massive tweet storm calling out its bad palm oil habit!
A, tweet P&G and demand it stops sourcing dirty palm oil.
P&G says it has a strong non-deforestation policy and is committed to protect people and the planet, but...

Peter Thiels blueprint to retaliate against journalists

Who will be the next billionaire that sues a media outlet out of existence?
After the website Gawker published a series of articles critical of Silicon Valley billionaire and right-wing megadonor Peter Thiel, he began funding a series of lawsuits aimed at shutting them down. He ultimately spent a total of $10 million — and in 2016, the website, unable to pay the verdict against them, shut down.
This episode wasn’t an isolated incident but a blueprint for how deep-pocketed individuals and corporations can retaliate against journalists. And sadly, The Intercept isn’t immune: Last year, we were sued by a billionaire defense contractor claiming defamation.
Our legal defense in that case alone has cost $200,000. We stand by our...

Regulate Canadian banks

The Big 5 Canadian banks are fueling climate change by financing fossil fuel companies. But the Canadian bank regulator, OSFI, has the power to rein this dirty financing in. OSFI wants to hear from the public and the deadline is in 3 days. Send a message saying Canadian banks must stop fueling the climate crisis.
A,
Earlier this month, my two-year-old and I had to stay indoors for 72 hours to protect ourselves from the smoke from the climate change-induced wildfires covering BC. This is the second September of his short life that we had to keep him away from poor air quality caused by climate change. And it won’t be his last, especially if corporations and regulators don't take action now.
RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, and CIBC have promised to address climate change – but their words are empty. The Big 5 Canadian banks have collectively poured over $900 billion into fossil fuels since...
Fiona could be the turning point

Paov,
I had CBC radio on pretty much nonstop this weekend, listening to story after story from people across Atlantic Canada who were reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona.
We still don’t know the full extent of the damage, but it was heartbreaking to hear radio callers take stock of the destruction this record-breaking storm left in their communities. They talked about flooded homes and businesses, having to throw away spoiled food, sleep-deprived linesmen working overtime to restore power, beloved neighbourhood trees uprooted by the extreme winds, local landmarks swept away by the surging sea, and how anxious and uncertain they are about the long, hard recovery ahead.
There were lots of heartwarming stories too, of neighbours helping each other out and making sure the most vulnerable members of their communities were safe, but it’s clear that people are also increasingly angry and frustrated. People know climate change is making hurricanes worse and they can see that our governments aren’t doing nearly enough to tackle the root causes of the crisis. Hurricane Fiona...

70 percent of Republicans doubt the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s election.
In recent days, right-wingers have been spreading doctored photos alleging the late Queen Elizabeth II once secretly knighted Donald Trump. Or claiming the queen had information that could lead to Hillary Clinton’s arrest.
Last week, Trump openly embraced QAnon for the first time. He wore a lapel pin reading “The Storm is Coming,” a reference to QAnon lore about Trump’s final victory, when he will be reinstated to power and his opponents will be tried and possibly executed on live TV.
Conspiracy theories like these are everywhere, fueled by a fake populist right-wing echo chamber seeking to...
