Making Development Work for Residents

Jeremy Loveday
PAOV --
No matter where you look, Victoria’s skyline is dotted with cranes: a clear sign that we are in the midst of a development boom. Meanwhile, the city is facing an acute affordability crisis.
I've been fighting for affordability since the day I was elected. Together, we secured $90 million for the Regional Housing First Program that will create 2000 units of housing, worked to assure housing units are used primarily as homes, and advocated against speculative investment in the housing market.
Our next challenge is to make real estate development work better for residents. For the past four years, I have been pushing for inclusionary zoning policies that would mandate affordable units in all new developments and calling for our community amenity contribution policies to be strengthened. Every development passed without these policies in place is a missed opportunity for our community.
New inclusionary zoning and community amenity contribution policies are set to come before Council in early September.
Please sign the petition to show Council and the City of Victoria that you think this should be a priority and to demand that residents get a fair deal out of development.
Thank you for your support. As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch with ideas, input, or concerns.
All the best,
Jeremy Loveday

rabble.ca 15th anniversary.
“Don't let them tell you it can't be done.” -- Jack Layton Click here for details!
"Within our current media landscape, opportunities for social change reporting are rare and opportunities for mentorship are even rarer. The Jack Layton Journalism for Change Fellowship is a unique merger of the two, a chance for an emerging writer or journalist to pursue the stories about economic, environmental, and social justice under the guidance of rabble's passionate and talented editorial staff. Above all, the Jack Layton Journalism for Change Fellowship is a call to action; it is a reminder of urgent need to speak truth to power during these difficult times."
