Victoria residents to march against Kinder Morgan bailout today

VICTORIA – On Tuesday, Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced that the Trudeau government is spending $4.5 billion in public funds to buy Kinder Morgan’s pipeline and prop up a failing project that puts BC’s coast at risk.
At 5:30 today, concerned residents of Victoria will gather at Government and Wharf Streets for a rally to deliver our response. This will be followed by a march ending at Centennial Square with speakers. Participants have been asked to bring pots, pans, instruments
and noise makers to say loud and clear: No Pipeline Buyout!

VIDEA 40th Anniversary Speakers Series
Over the upcoming months VIDEA will be hosting a number of speaker events to bring our community together to explore interesting and relevant social justice and international development topics.
Dr. Astrid V. Pérez Piñán will be talking about colonialism in the international context by offering an overview of the current state of affairs in Puerto Rico, 8 months after hurricanes Maria and Irma. She will contextualise the Island’s situation in terms of its relationship with the United States, and will open space for reflecting on some of the local actions of Puerto Ricans towards a decolonized future.

A presentation of Robert Massoud, founder of Zatoun at Ten Thousand Villages in Broadmead Village. The event is happening on May 16, 2:30 pm, the day after of celebration of Nakba Day.
Zatoun is a project which brings fair trade olive oil to Canada from Palestine. Zatoun represents the human experience of Palestine and its people especially farmers who depend on their land and its fruits.
