Established in 1911, International Women’s Day is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. It is a day in which women from around the world unite in thoughts, prayers, struggles, hopes and dreams. Women’s accomplishments in education, business, science, art, medicine, public service, athletics, and every other field have made our world better and stronger. While we recognize the advancement of women around the world, the sad truth is that the world is still at least 100 years away from global gender equality. Program includes: Brianna Dick from the Songhees First Nations, & Trudy Spiller, Linda Rogers-Poet with mandolin accompaniment , The RabbleBerries, Yvonne Blomer -Victoria Poet Laureate 2015-2018, Young IWD Dancers, Raging Grannies, Olivia Kompier-slam poet, Rama DeLaRosa and the Sisters of Mercy, Cindy Sue, Vic Horvath on Acoustic Guitar, Alison Ward -Pacific Opera Company, The Re:Sisters a dynamo band from Vancouver, Carolyn Mark on Acoustic Guitar,...

Pharmacare

The Liberals’ Budget 2018 had an exciting surprise: a commitment to put forward a pharmacare plan for Canada.
Universal pharmacare would be a lifesaver for the nearly 1 million Canadians who have to choose between food on the table and urgently needed medicine - but the program could be sabotaged before it even gets off the ground. [1]
The Big Pharma lobby, made up giant corporations like Pfizer and Merck, have a direct line to Liberal ministers - and they’re moving fast. [2-3] Less than a day after the budget dropped, Finance Minister Morneau was already walking back on pharmacare promises. [4]
It’s clear that the government is listening - but it’s up to us to make sure that lobbyists are not the only voices they’re hearing. The only hope we have of competing against the enormous power of Big Pharma, is by coming together and making sure our voices carry all the way to Parliament.
So the question is: should the Leadnow community launch a campaign to fight back against Big Pharma and show our support for universal pharmacare?

Do you think Leadnow should support this petition?

Leadnow member Jim created a petition on our public petition website, entitled “Canadian Tire: Stop selling products made by guns manufacturer Vista Outdoor."
The petition is addressed to Canadian Tire, and reads:
As customers of Canadian Tire, we call on you to immediately stop the sale of all Vista Outdoor brands.
SIGN THE PETITION
Here's what Jim wrote about it:
Vista Outdoor is a United States based corporation that owns Savage Arms - one of the largest producers of semi-automatic weapons in the country. [1] They're heavily involved in the gun lobby, and have ties to the National Rifle Association (NRA). [2]
Canadian Tire is currently supporting Vista Outdoor by stocking products from their other brands like -- Raskullz, Bushnell, Weaver, Simmons, Tasco, Butler Creek. [3]
In light of the ongoing mass shootings south of the border, many companies are withdrawing their support from manufacturers of assault type weapons. Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC) has just stopped orders for all products from Vista. [4] We call on Canadian Tire to follow suit. Can you click to let us know what you think?

Our internet is under attack. Major telecom companies like Bell want the telecommunications commission (CRTC) to create a review board with the power to control our online activities and block websites they don’t like. [1] Blocking websites amounts to one thing: censorship.

Dear Paov,
Wow. You just defeated BC’s most unfair, regressive tax in favour of a fairer way to pay for health care in B.C.:
Success! You told the province to get rid of MSP fees earlier - by budget 2019/2020. This past Tuesday, the province committed to scrap the fees altogether by January 2020. [1]
Win! You told the province to make up part of the MSP fee revenue with a combination of personal and employer taxes. This past Tuesday, the province announced a new employer health tax to replace half the revenue.
