Unfortunately, the Canadian legal system is failing them. Our new report, co-produced with Dunne-zah/Cree trapper Bud Napoleon and other Indigenous trapline holders, shows why their rights...

Dear Friends of SJS,

Please share widely, if you like:

Open letter:

Homelessness is a health and safety risk: Why we need a public health approach in tent cities

Close to 500 residents of Discontent City in Nanaimo, Anita Place in Maple Ridge, and Camp Namegans in Saanich, BC are facing the threat of displacement largely on the basis of health and safety concerns often focused on fire safety at the exclusion of other health and safety risks. Persistent homelessness, visible in the presence of tent cities throughout Canada and particularly in BC, highlights the failure of society to ensure basic human rights and access to the basic determinants of health such as food, water, housing, social supports, self-determination, and freedom from violence and discrimination enshrined in international agreements including the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights [1] Yet, residents of these tent...

Please vote for Storyhive project about the BC volunteers in the International Brigades

Hello Friends,

Here is some info about a new film about the Mac Paps that may be of interest to you, and of course feel free to pass the info on to other friends. The spirit of the Mac Paps lives on.

Kevin Neish

============================================================================================

Greetings,

My independent documentary film, Taking a Stand; Story of the BC MacPaps has been accepted into the Telus STORYHIVE competition. The film is about the British Columbia International Brigades volunteers.

It's also a personal story - my great uncle Peter, went to and died in Spain. The film looks at why he and the other British Columbia volunteers went to Spain and examines the similarities with today - including the rising tide of fascism,...

Trans Mountain

Now's the time to come together and make sure this pipeline never gets built. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌

This week's headlines prove what we've known all along – the Trans Mountain pipeline is a toxic investment. Thanks to powerful Indigenous-led resistance, strong public opposition, and principled action from municipalities and the province of BC, the Trudeau government hasn't been able to find a private buyer for the beleaguered pipeline and tanker project, at least not yet.

Now it's more important than every to keep up our opposition through the summer, and show Trudeau that this pipeline is never getting built.

If you haven't donated yet, will you take a moment now and support the campaign?

Have your say on national pharmacare

NationBuilder r1

Dear Paov --

A federally appointed Advisory Council has just opened up their online consultation questionnaire on the issue of a national drug plan. The Advisory Council wants to hear from Canadians like yourself on what you think a national drug plan should look like.

Please fill out the 10-minute questionnaire now in order to ensure that a national pharmacare plan is fair, healthy, and affordable for all.

We know that medicine is health care. However, many British Columbians can’t access medicine they need because of costs.

According to one study, 29 percent of respondents in British Columbia – more than any other province in the country –...

Are you ready to stop Trans Mountain Supa?

Let's make sure this pipeline never gets built. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌

Last week, the federal government announced that it intends to start construction on the Trans Mountain pipeline in August. Now, just one day before the government’s July 22nd deadline to find a buyer for its $4.5 billion bailout disaster, it’s become clear that Prime Minister Trudeau is going to do everything in his power to push this dirty pipeline through.

We’ve crunched the numbers, and if we’re going to sustain our Kinder Morgan campaign through the summer and keep bulldozers out of the ground, we need your help.
