Rev. Naim Ateek on Christian Zionism and the Palestinians

This week, Voice of Palestine presents the second part of our highlights from the recent Canadian Friends of Sabeel conference in Vancouver, April 23-25, 2015. We feature part of the opening night keynote address from Rev. Naim Ateek, and pick up his speech as he first details the historical origins of Christian Zionism, traces its development, and then analyzes its impact on the continued dispossession and current situation of the Palestinians. Rev. Ateek is from Jerusalem and is the founder of the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre.

This is what happened to me last night...

SHD

Yesterday I showed my landlord the new trailer for our upcoming documentary “Whoa Canada”. He got so paranoid about me uploading “dangerous” videos from his internet connection that he actually confronted me in the middle of the night and asked me to pack up and leave. I’m now sleeping at a friend’s house. As unfortunate as this is, my landlord was right.

The film we’re making is going to be “dangerous”, but in all the right ways.

Complaint filed against BC governments slashed access to welfare

Posted on: May 13, 2015 - 11:58am

In a 40 page complaint filed yesterday, nine social service agencies from across BC have asked the Ombudsperson of BC to launch a systemic investigation into service reductions at the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation that shut out many eligible people from accessing income assistance. The complaint, filed by the BC Public Interest Advocacy Centre (BCPIAC), a law office in Vancouver, alleges that the government has created insurmountable barriers that deprive people of critical income support to which they are legally entitled.

Billboard Against Israel's Apartheid & Occupation

Hi friends,Today the following letter with picture from our committees was sent to the following media outlets. We hope that we can all send letters or call them in support of human rights and equality in Palestine and in support of our billboard. This may pressure them to print or air something on it.
Again we ask that if any of us write any letters or make any calls to please let us know so we can keep track of what kind of support we are getting.
The only reason our billboard has not been removed is because of all the great tremendous support we have been receiving. Our fight to keep it up is still not over. So we must continue to raise our voices in support of it.
Our many thanks to all of us who are contributing to this issue.

Dear Friends of SJS,
MAY 15 REMINDER:

MAY 21:
Victoria Friends of Cuba Social Justice Film Nights presents:

This film is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It’s the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all.
