One final stand before the Kinder Morgan decision.

Will your community join the national day of vigils to stop Kinder Morgan? r1

Friends,

The federal government will announce its decision on the Kinder Morgan pipeline as early as next week.

If Prime Minister Trudeau approves this pipeline, he will break all of the promises he has made on climate change and Indigenous rights. It’s time to take one final stand to get this message across to to him.

This is an all hands on deck moment. November 21st will be a national day of vigils to stop the Kinder Morgan pipeline. Right now, there are over 40 vigils planned across the country -- but we noticed there isn’t one planned in your community.

Are you interested in signing up to host one? Click here to sign up to host a...

Hey Paov,

Get social with Global Citizen and find out what we are up to in Canada, and abroad. We promise, it’s pretty cool stuff.

This last month for instance, We’ve been getting bendy and hosting workshops at yoga festivals in Edmonton, participating in maternal and child health conferences in Montreal, and visiting Parliament in Ottawa. Not to mention, our favourite iHeart Radio Canada Ambassador, Patrick Langlois (www.instagram.com/patricklanglois), is in Mumbai for the first ever Global Citizen Festival in India!

Trump: What you can do

OpenMedia r1

Paov,

I’m seriously concerned about your online privacy and freedom of expression after last week’s election.

Soon, President-elect Donald Trump will have full control of the NSA – the most powerful state surveillance system on earth. With his authoritarian streak, growing list of enemies, and desire to implement widespread censorship on the Web, this is far from a distant threat.

I’m writing today to ask for your help. Please chip in $5 so we can protect your online privacy...

Solidarity With the People of Syria! Build the Antiwar Movement!

Solidarity With the People of Syria!
Build the Antiwar Movement!

Richard Fidler

David Bush's article "Syria and the Antiwar Tradition," in the November 3 issue of The Bullet, is a commendable attempt to debate what antiwar activists in Canada and other "Western" countries should be saying and doing about the current war in Syria.

In that country, the rebel cities that rose up four years ago in revolt against the brutal Bashar al-Assad dictatorship are now under a genocidal siege, bombed and assaulted from the air by Assad's military, aided and abetted by Russian fighter jets and bombers. Their desperate fight for survival, if unsuccessful, will put paid to the Arab Spring and with it the potential for building a democratic, anti-imperialist governmental alternative...

Report from day 9 of COP22

#NoDAPL International Day of Action

As we watched photos pour in from solidarity actions back home, our team joined COP 22 delegates from around the world to stand with Standing Rock from Marrakech. At sunset, a group of over 150 activists, artists, students, indigenous leaders and elders gathered outside the grounds of COP22 in ceremony and solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. The dust kicked up around our shuffling feet as we moved into a circle, told the media and many passersby: no photos. No photos during ceremony, no photos as we hold a sacred space outside the sterile structures of this UN climate conference.

CYDaily from COP22 -- report back from day 8

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition

A Warm Greeting for Minister McKenna at COP Youth Circle Event

With the arrival of over 80 heads of state and additional ministers for week 2 at COP, the CYD spent the weekend plotting and preparing for high-profile arrivals. Today we met the Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna, Ontario Environment Minister Glen Murray, and journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now (pictures to come!). Members of the Canadian Youth Delegation were invited to attend a COP Youth Circle event Monday morning, where Minister McKenna, along with negotiators from the USA and United Arab Emirates, sat down to seek input from youth on the future of climate action.

The CYD arrived, as always, in style—wearing T-shirts bearing an image in the likeness of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, paired with a statement reading “Pipeline Politics: New Hair, same BS.” Stay tuned for great t-shirt photos!.

The technical negotiations of week one have mostly adjourned and the high-level segment begins on Monday. This includes the morning arrival of Canada’s Environment Minister, Catherine McKenna. Stay tuned for updates from week two! In the meantime, here’s what we got up to on the day off:

Climate Justice March

Today, hundreds of people from diverse climate justice projects and campaigns in countries all over the world gathered at at Stade El Hartiand marched to Place Bab Doukkala. CYDelegates joined the march not only with fellow COP delegates, but with Moroccan activists from the Imidar protest camp 300 kilometers south (follow the hashtag #300kmsouth to learn more). They came to the city to be part of a press conference and to stand for climate justice—and against state repression—in Marrakech today.

Justin Trudeau: Trump’s values are #NotMyValues

Following the U.S. election, Prime Minister Trudeau issued a statement congratulating the President-elect. Diplomacy, sure. But his statement went on to celebrate the U.S. as Canada’s closest friend and ally, and to talk about our “shared values.”

The amount of pain and rage our team has been experiencing following the U.S. election results is hard to put into words. Our Prime Minister cannot pretend to represent Canadian youth if he touts shared values with Donald Trump. Please join us in condemning the hatred, xenophobia, misogyny, and violence that the U.S. president-elect represents.

Important update on abusive veterinarian

r1 Protect animals from vets like Dr. Rekhi r33

Dear PAOV,

Two months ago, veterinarian Dr. Mahavir Rekhi of St. Catharines, Ontario was exposed on secret video for viciously hitting, punching, and choking cats and dogs in his care. Even though Dr. Rekhi was convicted of professional misconduct by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), he got off easy with a short suspension. He could be back to work as soon as next month.

The CVO heard from thousands of compassionate people...
