Venezuela & Violent Protests
Since I had sent a previous note in regards to the national NDP's motion in parliament, wrongly putting the blame on the Venezuelan government for the violence unleashed by protesters which was passed by all parliamentarians, I am forwarding the following letter from the America's Policy Group sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs which exposes more clearly where our government stands in regards to Venezuela.
Again I appeal to all of us to write letters to the NDP (and the Canadian government) in asking them why they would pass such a motion in parliament wrongly blaming the Venezuelan government for the violence when there is more than enough evidence to prove that the opposition and the protesters are the ones using force and violence.Randy-------

The NDP and the truth on Venezuela

One has to wonder if the NDP has anything left in standing up for the poor, unemployed, women, worker's rights or democracy. Since 1998 the government of Venezuela which has been democratically elected over and over again has produced hundreds of thousands of new jobs, increased wages, reduced poverty rates drastically, increased women rights, got rid of illiteracy by investing in education, provided health care to all Venezuelans, built tens of thousands of homes for the homeless, gave tons and tons of food at reduced prices to the whole population and the list does not end here. Yet the NDP introduced the following motion in parliament on Wednesday which achieved unanimous consent to punish the Venezuelan government.
"That the House express its deep concern at the escalation of violence in Venezuela; convey its condolences to the families of those killed or injured during...

This week Voice of Palestine interviews Ehab Lotayef, an Egyptian Canadian poet and activist. We talk with him about the shocking developments in Egypt especially the recent 529 death sentences handed down by the Egyptian military junta, as well as their recent moves against the Gaza Strip and their abusive treatment of international supporters of the Gazan population. He also updates us on the progress of the Gazas Ark, and explains the objectives of “Egyptians worldwide for democracy and Justice“, of which he is a member.
Our final music is by the late legendary Egyptian singer, Sheik Imam, entitled Egypt Rise Up. We dedicate this song to the progressive forces in Egypt and across the Arab world, for whom Sheik Imam remains a beacon of inspiration.

"Taking Root" is a compelling documentary narrative about the first environmentalist and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1977, Maathai suggested rural women plant trees to address problems stemming from a degraded environment. Under her leadership, their tree-planting grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, defend human rights and promote democracy, and brought Maathai the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.___________________________________________________________
