Celebrate Universal Health Coverage Day

NationBuilder r1

Paov --

Sunday, Dec. 12th was the International Universal Health Coverage Day. The United Nations marks this day to highlight "the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage", and we couldn't agree more.

As we begin wrapping up another year of extreme pressure to our public health care system, we need to ensure that we hold the government accountable and fight to invest in a health system that leaves no one behind.

Thank you for supporting our work this year. Together we have made a difference on the health care issues that matter most in the lives of British Columbians. We couldn’t have done it without you. Will you continue your support for our work going into 2022 by making a year-end gift?

Victoria Councillor Ben Isitt proposes emergency funding proposal to save School Crossing Guard Program

December 13, 2021

VICTORIA, BC – Victoria City Council is considering an emergency funding proposal from Councillor Ben Isitt to save the School Crossing Guard Program at schools within the City of Victoria.

On December 10, 2021, the Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association notified the Mayor and Council that the association will be suspending crossing guard services at Victoria schools after December 17 due to a lack of funds.

In response, Victoria City Councillor Ben Isitt has submitted a proposal for emergency funding of up to $50,000, which will be considered by councillors at a Special Council Meeting on Thursday, December 16.

“The School Crossing Guard Program provides an essential service for the safety and well-being of children and other members of the school communities,” says Isitt. “It is important for City Council to provide funds to ensure continuity of this safety program when schools reopen in January. I hope that my colleagues will support this funding proposal.”

Victoria City Council will consider Isitt’s emergency...

We're losing forests fast

Friends,

We're angry.

Last month the BC NDP government committed to defering logging in 2.6 million hectares of old growth, pending approval from First Nations. After taking 18 months to make their announcement, the province gave First Nations just 30 days to approve the deferrals. They also didn't provide any support to offset potential lost revenue, or resources to help assess possible impacts of deferrals.

From Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, President of @ubcic:

“The BC NDP government has evaded responsibility and hastily thrown the conflict over old-growth into the laps of Indigenous people, forcing First Nations into an impossible situation.
