UPDATE

Provinces using investor-owned for-profit clinics to cut wait times heading towards predictable failure

Decades of austerity cuts, underfunding, and neglect by conservative governments have not left Canada’s healthcare system prepared for the pandemic’s sustained pressures. In response to a crumbling system, Canada’s right-wing establishment is prescribing more of the same failing treatment: private health care.

We’re seeing a new wave of pro-privatization discourse in the media as provinces move their privatization agendas forward. Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan have all announced plans to outsource surgeries to private providers - a strategy already in use by the B.C. NDP-led government to clear its surgical backlog.

In this month's blog post, we outline the evidence against private outsourcing and argue for a public sector strategy founded on proven solutions. READ MORE.

Canadians Call on NATO: Reduce Nuclear Risks

A friendly reminder that we would appreciate your support.
NATO revises its Strategic Concept major document only once every 10 years so your participation now is significant!

Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons

Request for action by February 14, 2022!
Dear friends, Canadians Call on NATO: Reduce Nuclear Risks
Are you concerned as we are about the casual talk about the use of nuclear weapons? The Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is a network of groups working for the elimination of nuclear weapons. We seek the support of civil society groups in Canada for the “Canadians Call on NATO: Reduce Nuclear Risks” statement that is attached in English and French. NATO is revising its rules of the game (the NATO Strategic Concept) on use of weapons in conflicts. We are concerned about the risk posed by nuclear weapons, particularly now with threats being exchanged between Russia and NATO states.
We hope to receive strong support from unions, professional associations, community organizations, service and ethnic groups. If you’d like more information on the statement, please respond with your questions.

Please respond by February 14th to let us know if your group agrees to be listed as a supporter of this statement. Our last...
