Home Depot execs and bigwig shareholders are meeting in just two days to make big decisions about the company’s priorities for the next year. And it is up to us to make sure that ending the sale of cancer-linked Roundup is on the agenda.
If they hear from enough people today urging them to stop selling Roundup, they’ll be forced to make a statement during the meeting on Thursday.

Your tireless campaigning for tribal peoples’ rights has resulted in two major victories.
In Germany the government has finally signed up to the key international law on indigenous peoples after a decade-long campaign by Survival supporters.
This isn’t just technical, it’ll make a real difference on the ground – because German aid money has been funding conservation projects by WWF and others that have been responsible for terrible abuses of local people in Africa.
This victory has been followed by a momentous win in Peru: after a long campaign by local organizations and Survival supporters worldwide, a huge new reserve for uncontacted tribes has been created.
The Yavari-Tapiche reserve is inhabited by members of the Matses, Marubo and other tribes. Oil companies have been eyeing up the area for decades – now it’s gained valuable new protection.
The people living there will of course never know the vital role you have played in this victory – so from all of us at Survival, thank you.

This week at rabble, Yves Engler takes on the military. While the details of former chief of the defence staff Jonathan Vance's sexual relations with a subordinate has put the patriarchal character of the military back in the spotlight, Engler wants the discussion to go further than that.
"There's been insufficient discussion of the ways in which the issue highlights the authoritarian nature of the armed forces and its negative impact on pluralistic, democratic values," Engler writes.
The power structures of the military go beyond a pervasive enforcement of patriarchy, Engler writes.
"Military command structures reinforce the most undemocratic and ignorant impulses of Canadian society, while the patriarchal and authoritarian nature of the Canadian Forces is a threat to many within the institution.
Fixing this will not be simple."
Meanwhile, in the wake of Joe Biden announcing the impending withdrawal of the remaining U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Duncan Cameron looks back at a 20 year war on terror that the U.S. and its allies ultimately lost, Cameron writes.
"What is striking is that during the last 20 years of stupendous military spending in Afghanistan and elsewhere, the quality of life for most U.S. citizens diminished dramatically."

Last summer, when protests broke out in New York City following George Floyd’s killing, the New York Police Department responded with even more brutality.
Time and again, police were caught on video lashing out seemingly at random. Peaceful protesters were punched, beaten with batons, and pepper-sprayed. Thousands indiscriminately were arrested.
Now, a trove of NYPD internal documents obtained by The Intercept is shedding new light on why the police reacted the way they did: They were trained to.
