Mass torture, rape and forced sterilisation -- welcome to life in a Uyghur concentration camp in China.

In February, Intercept investigative reporter Mara Hvistendahl delivered a major scoop, uncovering evidence that tech giant Oracle had marketed and sold software to be used for surveillance by police in China and other oppressive regimes around the world.
So how did Oracle react to the story? Did the company challenge our reporting? Admit its actions and pledge to reform its policies?
Nope. Oracle responded by attacking our reporter. Viciously.
Oracle executive Ken Glueck first lashed out in lengthy blog posts. He asked people to help him dig up dirt on Hvistendahl personally. Then he harassed her on Twitter, getting himself temporarily suspended from that platform.
Despite all the bullying, threats, attacks, and insults, Oracle hasn’t refuted our central findings. And that’s why we won’t back down when Oracle or any other giant corporation, politician, or...
Implementing UNDRIP – What will this mean for the Indigenous people?

Dear Friend,
The Canadian government is once again debating the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’ (UNDRIP) application in Canada, a nation that would not exist but for genocide and the theft and occupation of Indigenous lands.
On December 3, 2020, the federal government introduced Bill C-15, An Act respecting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the House of Commons. The bill attempts to establish a process for the domestic implementation of the UNDRIP.
The rights and principles affirmed in UNDRIP constitute the minimum standards for the survival, dignity, and well-being of Indigenous peoples of the world.
But what might the implementation of Bill C-15 mean for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis rights holders in relationship to Canada? Read more in my new blog featuring various perspectives on Bill C-15.
Despite the hard work and perseverance of Indigenous peoples to bring about what became UNDRIP, Canada’s journey towards its endorsement...

A,
It’s time to put pressure on French President Macron to drop funding for Big Oil giant Total's destructive project in the Arctic.
Thanks to your support, this morning, we’re heading to the French Ministry of Economy to hand over your signatures in a very spectacular way!
It's a surprise, so we can’t tell you more just now but, A, to strengthen our stunt, you can also act by directly calling out Macron and the French government on social media.
Send a tweet190,000 signatures have already raised the alarm on a matter that has so far been kept well hidden from the public.
These last few months, French President Macron has talked a lot but done literally nothing about climate chaos. Even worse, while he himself warned that participating in melting the Arctic ice "would kill us all", he is now ready to write a blank check to...

PAOV — “Nova Scotians are rightfully concerned about the park, the process, and the precedent.” Thousands are calling on Nova Scotia to formally protect Owls Head Provincial Park, a biodiverse coastal headland on the province’s Eastern Shore. The park was removed from Nova Scotia’s Our Parks and Protected Areas Plan without public consultation, and the province signed a letter of offer to sell the land to a developer for a proposed golf resort. Petition starter Lindsay wants to see Owls Head formally protected to preserve both access and coastal ecosystems. If you agree that Owls Head should be protected, add your signature today.

Friends,
Today, the International Energy Agency, a notoriously pro-fossil fuel organization, made a surprising move. In a landmark report, the IEA confirmed that building or investing in any new fossil fuel projects is dangerously out of step with securing a safe climate. 1
We’ve been saying these things for a long time. But, now, even some of Big Oil’s biggest allies agree. This has three major implications for Canadian climate politics.2 Let me break them down for you:
First, this report makes it clear that we cannot afford to waste any more public money on fossil fuel projects. In particular, we simply cannot spend another dollar on the Trans Mountain pipeline. The costs of the TMX pipeline are ballooning every day and the IEA report is further proof that backing this project means breaking Canada’s climate commitments. Now is as good a time as any to tell the Trudeau government to...
