Dreaming of building a model for a new Guatemala, the families settled on lands of a former cattle ranch to start their new lives with almost nothing- no possessions, no housing, no safe drinking water, nor electricity. After years of hard work and devotion, Nuevo Horizonte is today a thriving community. Developing a model of cooperation the people of Nuevo Horizonte have...

Empire Politician

You did this, A!

A,

This has been one of the most devastating and isolating years in recent history, but in the midst of it all, you came together and created incredible hope and change.

You gave a mother fighting to save other children from the painful death her daughter suffered at the hands of Monsanto’s Roundup poison, the resources she needs to continue her brave battle.

Group of mothers in a field holding a sign calling for action on glyphosate poisoning.

Sofia and a group of mothers in her community who have suffered due to glyphosate poisoning are taking their case to court to ban glyphosate once and for all.

You forced banks and insurers in Canada, France and the UK to transform from being climate killers to becoming allies in the climate fight.

You helped an Amazon indigenous community protect their land from government destruction.

You pushed Delta Air Lines, a major corporate donor, to withdraw support for racist, divisive politicians in Georgia.

You protected the privacy of people everywhere from tech startup Clubhouse, helped kick Trump off Twitter, and exploded into the national conversation on disinformation and Big Tech regulation in...

Save this monkey from extinction

Logging has all but destroyed the home of the world’s last 7000 cotton-top tamarin monkeys. But if 5000 of us chip in in the next 24 hours, we can literally buy the Colombian forest where they live, permanently protect it, and give our little primate cousin a chance to thrive.

Let’s buy a forest -- can you help?

A,

How cool is this -- this week we can buy 110-acres of threatened Colombian tropical forest and give a fighting chance to critically endangered turtles and monkeys!

Thanks to the rampant destruction of their forest home, there’s less than 7000 of the charismatic cotton-top tamarins left in the wild -- and deforestation is picking up speed.

But our partner Rainforest Trust is on the cusp of purchasing and...

Worst. Hotel. Ever.

Hotel giant forces unbearable breakneck pace on its housekeepers, for a meager salary barely allowing them to keep a roof over their heads.

But these courageous women are fighting back!

Tell this hotel behemoth to hire them as core staff and treat them with the respect and dignity they’ve earned.

A,

17 minutes. That’s how little time this Ibis hotel gives to its housekeepers to: ventilate a room, pick up trash, change linens, scrub the bathroom, the toilets, make the bed, dust, vacuum, mop and vacuum again.

All that, 14 to 34 times a day, for a meager salary that barely allows them to put food on the table.

It’s intolerable. Their back hurt, their feet hurt, their knees hurt, and many suffer chronic injuries. That’s why they’ve been picketing for better working conditions for the past 20 months.

One person can put an end to this inhumane situation: it’s Cédric Durand, COO for AccorInvest, which owns this Ibis hotel. AccorInvest refuses...

Planet-killing loophole

Insurance giant Munich Re is using a dodgy loophole to back planet-destroying coal projects -- but it’s under growing pressure to stop.

Its annual shareholder meeting is in just 5 days -- tell Munich Re to stop insuring disaster.

Sign the petition

A,

Insurance giant Munich Re is using a dodgy loophole to back some of the world’s dirtiest coal projects -- like the mammoth Bełchatów plant in Poland, Europe’s biggest carbon polluter!

Instead of underwriting coal mines and power stations directly, it insures other companies doing it — allowing it to keep its hands clean, while still profiting from dirty fossil fuels.

But now the world’s No.1 reinsurer, SwissRe, has promised to stop this practice, and pressure is mounting on Munich Re -- the second biggest -- to follow suit.

Its annual shareholder meeting is in just 5 days. If enough of us sign we can shine a light on its double dealings -- and embarrass the company into action.
