12 hours to fix the voting reform committee

We may have less than 12 hours to fix the committee that will recommend how to replace our broken first-past-the-post voting system.
Here’s the deal: a few weeks ago the Liberals announced their plan to create a committee to recommend a new voting system. There was one big problem: the government gave themselves six voting seats on the committee, while the opposition only got four voting seats. That meant the government would have total control over the result.

One of the important goals of our mission is to highlight the devastating effects of the brutal blockade on the Palestinian people living in Gaza and will emphasize in particular the struggle of women, and their many roles within the resistance. Women in Gaza often fill the role of caring for and sustaining life, and are actively involved in community development and nation building. It is important to make their voices heard, even more so during periods of...

Why proportional representation?
- Details
- Published on Tuesday, 31 May 2016 14:45

Proportional representation (PR) is a type of voting system that produces a result where the number of seats a party wins in the legislature is proportional to their share of the popular vote. So, if - say - the Conservative Party wins 39% of the vote, with a PR system, they would get 39% of the seats. PR is the only option that will produce a fair outcome in the House of Commons, and that’s why the Leadnow community is supporting it.
Over 90 countries around the world use a type of PR, including most Western democracies. Canada is an outlier for still using the outdated first-past-the-post system.
We know you want to change our broken voting system. If you agree that PR is the best way forward, there’s a quick way you can support this campaign. All you have to do is click here to send a quick message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, telling him that you support PR.
Over 70% of you told us you support a PR option for Canada’s next voting system. Over 12000 of you have already written directly to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Democratic Institutions Maryam Monsef, letting them know you want PR.

The Israeli minister of Environment joined the previous defense minister to
quit the Zionist regime’s government because it is becoming more extreme.
With the addition of bar bouncer colonial settler Avigdor Lieberman (has a
house in an illegal colony here in Bethlehem), the fascist government is
now in good shape to take Israel to the next inevitable stage along. The
same trend-line that Nazi Germany took step-wise in the 1930s. It is no
wonder that so many more people are now drawing parallels between the two
regimes with similar exclusivist ideologies (Nazism and Zionism). Thousands
of Israeli Jews from Israel Shahak to Israeli General and Deputy Chief of
Staff Yair Golan have already made the comparison to the consternation of
the Zionist leadership. Ken |Livingstone's truthful statement taht JHitler
supported Zionism early on is well supported by facts (see my own writing

What: Climate Town Hall with MP Randall Garrison
When: Friday May 27 at 7pm
Where: Esquimalt High School Theatre -
847 Colville Rd, Victoria, BC V9A 4N9
Our new government is currently under intense pressure from oil lobbyists to continue Harper’s dream of turning Canada into a fossil fuel superpower. There’s a push to expand fracking in BC, build pipelines to the coasts, save coal plants in Alberta and weaken climate action.1,2,3,4
But now we have a major opportunity to turn things around, and give the federal government the mandate it needs to make Canada a climate leader. This week, the government is holding another round of climate town halls, seeking input into their National Climate Strategy. One of these is being hosted in Esquimalt.
