PAOV --
In the months since working with SHD on the
election, I took a bit of a breather and then started working on my
own project because I was trying to answer these questions:
Are rape jokes ever OK, let alone funny? What if the people telling rape jokes were survivors?

Dear PAOV,
At the end of February, I sent you a quick update about what we’ve been working on recently here at JVP. Now, as Pesach draws to a close, and Jews around the world have spent the last week recommitting to struggles for justice, I want to do the same.
I wrote to you last month about our fight at the UC Regents (the governing body of the University of California). A proposal to include anti-Zionism as a form of anti-Semitism and discrimination has caused consternation among people fighting for Palestinian rights, as well as for all people concerned about free expression of political ideas -- not to mention those who care about history and the erasure of anti-Zionism from Jewish history!

Israel's ongoing military occupation of Palestinian territory and its repeated invasions of the Gaza strip have triggered a fierce backlash against Israeli policies virtually everywhere in the world — except the United States.
The Occupation of the American Mind takes an eye-opening look at this critical exception, zeroing in on pro-Israel public relations efforts within the U.S. Narrated by Roger Waters and featuring leading observers of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, the film explores how the Israeli government, the U.S. government, and the pro-Israel lobby have joined forces, often with very different motives, to shape American media coverage of the conflict in Israel's favour.
The Occupation of the American Mind provides a sweeping analysis of Israel's decades-long battle for the hearts, minds, and tax dollars of the American people — a battle that has only intensified over the past few years in the face...

There was a typo in yesterday's email regarding the Stop Paid Plasma Townhall which is taking place in Victoria next Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30 pm.
I wanted to confirm that the townhall will be held at Cook Street Village Activity Centre, 380 Cook St, Victoria, BC (map)
One sentence in the previous email mistakenly said the townhall would be held at the Reach Gallery.
My apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
Hope to see you at the Cook Street Village Activity Centre next Tuesday!

A private company is going to move to B.C. and endanger our safe blood supply unless we stop them.

We'll be speaking along with Kat Lanteigne, advocate and co-founder of BloodWatch.org, at this free public town hall meeting at the Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford.
Tainted blood infected 30,000 Canadians with HIV and Hepatitis C in the 1980’s during one of the worst preventable health crises of our time. An inquiry into the scandal found that in order to prevent another tragedy, Canada must not allow payment for blood and plasma donations.
