Anti-Indigenous Violence at Walbran Camp by Industry Workers

https://www.facebook.com/groups/688088801293691/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/1501416473460196 An Indigenous youth was physically assaulted by forestry workers yesterday at the Walbran watch camp. The watch camp is part of the Rainforest Flying Squad’s nonviolent direct action to protect old-growth forests near Port Renfrew, which includes Fairy Creek. This camp is not a blockade. At 1:02 pm yesterday (Tuesday, May 4th), 10 Western Forest Products forestry workers drove into the camp in four trucks with muddied license plates. “They threatened us and our families,” said one. The men walked towards the four youth in the camp, racially targeting the Indigenous youth. While all youth were threatened, the physical violence and verbal abuse was explicitly anti-Indigenous.The men were yelling threats and abuse, and warning them to leave the area, threatening future violence to them and their families, if they did not. Just before leaving, three of the workers attacked G., a young Indigenous man, and tried to force him to the ground, while a fourth man hit him. His phone, which he had been using to film, was punched out of his hand and then stolen. His instrument was broken. There was a second camera filming and there is video evidence of this violent assault. Several other incidents of...

UPDATE Your contribution to the 2021 BC budget

Ask your MP to champion LTC national standards

NationBuilder r1

Action Dispatch:
Ask your MP to be a champion for national long-term care standards!

Paov --

We just wrapped up our virtual action for LTC National Standards. In case you missed it, you can watch the recording on YouTube HERE, and you can still join us in action by sending a letter to your MP.

The federal government has committed to developing national standards for long-term care. This could be game-changing for residents and workers in long-term care – but only if the standards are tough enough to make a difference and come with adequate funding.

The for-profit seniors’ care industry knows that meaningful long-term care standards would threaten their profits, and they’ve been furiously lobbying the government ever since the first mention of national standards in Ottawa.

If we’re going to stop the for-profit seniors’ care industry from sabotaging this opportunity to win strong national standards for long-term care, we need to speak up now.

That’s why we created this tool to help you...

This Earth Day, please take 3 minutes to watch our new animated poem

The 30% plan will be the biggest land grab in history.
Survival’s new video aims to show people that the 30x30 plan must be stopped if we’re to protect the planet. © Survival Dear PAOV,

This Earth Day, please take 3 minutes to watch our new animated poem, narrated by activist-poet, Nnimmo Bassey. Why? Because if we really want to protect our planet, we must stop the plan to carve out 30% of the globe as “Protected Areas.”

The 30% plan, dreamt up by political and business leaders and big conservation NGOs, will be the biggest land grab in history. It will reduce hundreds of millions of people to landless poverty, and make biodiversity loss and climate change worse.

It’s being marketed as the way to save the planet with more “conservation”; but in reality, it's about money, not science. It’s a dangerous distraction from the real solution, both for the planet and the peoples on it: to recognize indigenous land rights.
