Tilbury LNG expansion

We can still protect the Fraser River from FortisBC's LNG project ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌
Stand.earth

This is it – we’re down to the wire. There’s just one week left to submit a comment opposing FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG expansion if we want to protect the Fraser River and the salmon that depend on it to survive.

The first step in expanding Tilbury LNG is building a jetty – and the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO) is currently accepting public comments that will determine if the project will live or die.

Will you use our easy one-click fax tool to submit a comment before the September 7th deadline and convince the BC EAO to stop Tilbury’s dangerous LNG project? We have suggested talking points to guide you.

SUBMIT A COMMENT

We know our pressure is working. We even heard feedback that officials at the BC EAO are overwhelmed by the sheer number of comments being submitted by folks like yourself. But that doesn’t mean we can slow down, because many comments in support of the project have been submitted too.

We need to speak up on behalf of all the B.C. residents who haven't even heard about this project, or the devastating impacts it would have on the climate and on endangered species. The stakes are too high to remain silent.

Add your comment to the thousands of others already submitted and help make sure this dangerous fracked gas project never sees the light of day.

Together, we can protect this critical region from FortisBC’s expansion plans.

2021 One Wave Gathering

Pacific People’s Partnership (PPP) is excited and proud to announce our 14th annual One Wave Gathering! One Wave is a vibrant, community celebration of South Pacific and Indigenous cultures, art, and knowledge hosted on the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. This year, a variety of events will be taking place throughout the month of September.

Guided by the themes of healing and resurgence, artists, knowledge keepers, speakers, and Elders will share their stories through song, dance, film, traditional food, and art. Our themes emerged from the many challenges of life during the pandemic, which we recognize as particularly pronounced in Indigenous and racialized communities. We desire One Wave Gathering to be a time to reflect, heal, and begin to build a more equitable future for us all.

This year, events...

22 Aug 2021-Fairy Creek-RCMP violently arrest 4 people the side of logging road

https://youtu.be/3q1EpokuKJQ
image.png
It is with dismay that we learn of yet another unlawful arrest today by rogue RCMP militarized forces at Fairy creek-targetting more Indigenous land defenders. Our friend Paul Chiyokten Wagner who has been leading prayerful ceremony on the frontlines through some difficult times and in the face of police brutality and the wanton destruction of protection camp infrastructure along Granite main, was brutally thrown down along with friends, cuffed, bound and arrested while holding ceremony on the roadside near the Red Dresses, presenting no impediment to industry or breach of the injunction whatsoever, like hundreds of people who have been unlawfully arrested and released without charges after being roughed up and subject to inhumane conditions. This happened only 24 hours after he offered cedar bough cleansing to 5 RCMP officers after a brutal attack on peaceful forest protectors with pepper-spray, Saturday morning. The illegal RCMP, purporting to uphold their own colonial laws and ensure public safety are clearly doing neither at Ada'itsx/Fairy Creek.

Stand.earth

Stand.earth has made it our goal this federal election to put cancelling the Trans Mountain pipeline back on the political agenda.

How are we going to do that? By proving that a candidate’s position on this pipeline can win or lose them votes, and ultimately – their seat in Parliament.

If we come together and flood the inboxes of every candidate across the country with calls to take a stand against Trans Mountain, we can show that there is huge public support for real climate leadership. And that must begin with stopping this toxic tar sands pipeline in its tracks.

will you help pressure the candidates in your riding to sign the pledge to fight Trans Mountain by sending them a quick email using our easy tool?

EMAIL YOUR CANDIDATES

The previous Liberal government would have you believe that the Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline is a done deal – but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The pipeline may be under construction, but it’s not too late for the federal government to halt the project and redirect billions of unspent dollars to accelerating a...

Dear Paov --

Earlier this month with rumors of a federal election being called, we asked for your support in improving our public health care system by becoming a monthly donor.

The rumors were true! As we make plans to leverage this federal election to win change, we also know that deep systemic change takes time, consistent public pressure, and ongoing accountability. The best way to support the ongoing movement for deep systemic change in public health care is to become a sustaining monthly donor.

To those who believe RCMP are on the side of the Law

You are sadly misinformed and must not be carefully following what is going on or are just too biased to care. The officer who tripped backwards down an incline on Saturday was not assaulted, not even close. His injuries actually pale in comparison to the dozens of people who have been badly hurt as the result of deliberate assaults suffered at the hands of RCMP over the past three months. A huge number of arrests have been catch and release, where people are violently thrown down, dragged, shoved, pounced, punched ,choked, knees on chest--and as on Saturday pepper-sprayed with the clear intent to harm peaceful protestors --and then no charges are laid. That is because hundreds of people, including legal observers, media, medics not directly contravening the terms of the injunction that stipulates that you cannot block logging or be within 50 metres of industrial machinery, are being wrongfully arrested, forcibly removed, roughed the f*ck up and then released without any paperwork, no scheduled court appearances, no bail conditions, nothing. They are arrested because they are found within arbitrary and temporary exclusion zones that the cops set up across major roads in the Renfrew area which Justice Thompson recently ruled...

We just launched our fossil-free fashion scorecard. See which brands need to take climate action.‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌
Stand.earth

Hot off the press! Our second industry-leading Fossil-Free Fashion Scorecard is here.

Building on the success of the 1st edition, our scorecard breaks down the climate policies and efforts of 47 of fashion’s most popular brands. And here’s a little teaser...in a sea of “F’s” there’s only one “B-”.

The recent IPCC report made it very clear that burning fossil fuels, like coal, cannot continue if we want a liveable and climate-safe world. As we face unprecedented devastation of the planet, big polluter corporations should have climate goals that score more than a “B-“.

But since we can’t tackle all 47 brands at once at Stand.earth, we’re starting with the big climate-talkers and urging them to walk the walk by cleaning up their emissions. Lululemon, Under Armour, and Athleta have all publicly announced their dedication to reducing their impact on the environment, and we’ve got a great starting place for them. Ditch coal and other fossil fuels and go 100% renewable by 2030.

Click here to add your name to the petition and call on Lululemon, Under Armour, and Athleta to live up to their climate promises by phasing out fossil fuels, like coal, from their manufacturing.

Petition to Joe Biden countering Misinformation about Cuba

Hi Friends,
Here’s a petition worth signing that was initiated by Cuban scientists countering the misinformation Joe Biden is spreading against the Cuban healthcare system.
It only takes a few minutes to sign it.
Thank you,In solidarity,Victoria Friends f Cuba
Stand with Cuba:Sign the Open Letter from Cuban Scientists to U.S. President Joe BidenA little over a week ago, hundreds of Cuban scientists and medical personnel sent an open letter to U.S. President Joe Biden, asking him to cease his hostile and unjustified attacks on Cuba's vaccines and vaccination programs. The letter (full text here) asks Biden to adopt an attitude of cooperation instead of confrontation when overcoming the Covid pandemic as well as other challenges, and to end not only the 243 punitive measures added by Trump, but the entire blockade of Cuba as well.
Now Cuba is asking "scientists, doctors, and concerned citizens" from all around the world (that's you!) to add their names to this open letter. We urge all our supporters to respond to this request. Click here to sign. [Note: when the form...

The unnecessary destruction of our well built structures by the RCMP is totally uncalled for.

2 post & beam kitchens with metal roofs gone.Multiple camps along the road destroyed with malocious intend.Food supplies, camp stoves, pots, pans & dishes destroyed.Pick up truck load after pick up load of valuables taken to Teal Jones yard.Vehicles illegally towed and stored at Teal Jones yard.
When did Teal Jones become a certified impound facility and where does ICBC stand in this? After diving for cover many times, hiding from police and industry, I made my way finally the 7 kms to River Camp, now the last stand. The good news is we have food and people, although on high alert they are in even higher spirits. The people are speaking and loudly.Actions are popping up everywhere in the province. The world is watching and I wonder when the UN Peacekeepers will step in to ensure we have adequate first aid and food supplies to replace the ones destroyed. Can you remember a time when this was something that only happened in 3rd World Countries? Reality check, it is happening right here right now. Armed militia denying the right to peaceful protest. Call your MLA, the RCMP, the premier's office or...

I feel the chainsaws cutting through my flesh, too.

Karen Moe - Aug 11th

HQ at Fairy Creek is under siege ... verging on or maybe has fallen! The RCMP have attacked the Forest Defenders and their camps and the old growth forests in the name of Teal-Jones with even more of a cruel vengeance since the one year anniversary of the blockades. Cops are being dropped in from helicopters. RCMP ATV squads in military gear. Dozens of gas-spewing RCMP trucks raged through HQ today. All that's missing are the semi-automatic rifles.
For those of you who think the 2 year deferral is for all of the old-growth logging in the province (which is what the mainstream media tells us by not telling us the whole story), here are the facts: only 884 of the 2061 hectares of old growth at Fairy Creek are temporarily protected and that also doesn't include an adjacent 1117 hectares that remains at risk and contains all of the logging approvals. And this is only about Fairy Creek and the Walbran Valley. Not about all of the province.
Teal-Jones has been logging even more voraciously and the RCMP have been increasingly aggressive since the 2-year deferral in June because the political spin of the 'stopping all logging...

Behind the $13.7 billion to fix long-term care

NationBuilder r1

Paov --

Tune in this afternoon, August 12 at 4:00 PM, for a conversation with Paul Manly, MP for Nanaimo-Ladysmith. We will go behind the scenes of Motion 77 to reform long-term care and introduce national standards.

Motion 77, introduced to the House of Commons by MP Paul Manly, calls for national standards and key reforms for long-term care. These include increased beds and hours of care, better wages and working conditions, and increased funding for home care. The Parliamentary Budget Officer recently released a report that estimates the annual cost of these reforms to be an additional $13.7 billion across federal, provincial, and territorial governments. In other words, our governments are currently under-spending on long-term care and under-valuing older adults.

Join us tomorrow as we go behind the scenes of Motion 77. We’ll learn...

Let's improve public health care together

NationBuilder r1

Dear Paov --

There are rumors that a federal election could be called at any moment. Just recently, an Angus Reid poll found that health care is the top-ranked issue priority in the country, and we are getting ready to make sure it is treated as such. For example, we plan on making national standards in long-term care a central issue when the election is called. You have demanded legislated national standards that eliminate profit in long-term care.

A federal election is a key moment to win change, but we also know that deep systemic change takes time, consistent public pressure, and ongoing accountability. The best way to support the ongoing movement for deep systemic change in public health care is to become a sustaining monthly donor.

Will you become a sustaining monthly donor via credit card by clicking on the button below? Be sure to select "Monthly" in the amount section so your donation occurs monthly.
