In case you missed it, we launched a fake federal Ministry of Just Transition yesterday1 and as you can imagine we’ve had a lot of interesting reactions. You never know how people are going to receive this kind of satirical tactic, so it’s been really encouraging to see how many of you are running with it and having fun with the hopeful and imaginative tone.

Let’s face it, the present is really hard and uncertain. And the Trudeau government’s continued climate delay is putting our future at risk. That’s why we launched the Ministry of Just Transition — to transport us to the future so we can see the big, beautiful changes we can win with a bold, and people-centred Just Transition Act. Our politicians clearly can’t imagine what a truly just transition away from fossil fuels looks like so we did the work for them with this project.

We have some troubling news to share.

Over the last 18 months, the number of readers making recurring monthly donations to The Intercept has declined by nearly 20 percent. That’s over 4,000 donors. Most of those contributions were small donations of $5 or $10 a month. But together, they really add up.

We understand that a lot of people are squeezed financially and simply can’t give as much as they’d like.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but we just learned that the Trudeau government has launched a federal Ministry of Just Transition. According to their website, the new ministry will be responsible for accelerating Canada’s shift to a green economy while taking care of workers, communities, and everyday people.1 They plan to roll out a wave of bold, transformative solutions that repair our planet, retrain and skill up oil and gas workers, and guarantee a good green, unionized job to anyone who wants one.
