We can't let Trudeau think this is acceptable.

Send a message to your MP to show how much better our future can be if they act with courage in this moment r1

Paov,

Last week, Environment Commissioner Jerry DeMarco released a bombshell set of reports on the federal government’s response to the climate crisis and the lack of basic progress is outrageous.1

It’s obvious the Liberal government is slow-walking the necessary transition off fossil fuels, but it was infuriating to hear DeMarco reveal the details of why Canada is not even on track to meet Trudeau’s weak 2030 targets.

Paov, we can’t let politicians think this is acceptable. Together, we’ve sent Members of Parliament and the Environment Minister nearly 2,000 messages about the urgent need for real climate action. Will you take a minute to add your voice?

We’ve launched an easy tool you can use to tell your MP to get to work on passing the just transition legislation workers and communities need. Add your voice now.

According to DeMarco, the federal government is objectively “unprepared and slow off the mark” when it comes to delivering the long-promised just transition for workers and communities. Three years after Trudeau declared a climate emergency and promised just transition legislation, his government still hasn’t...

Polar bear killed

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — On May 1st, a polar bear was shot and killed from a helicopter in Gaspé, Québec after it approached a residential area. Wildlife officials chose to kill the bear, rather than attempt to tranquillize and relocate it. Polar bears spend most of their lives on Arctic sea ice, but as global warming continues to melt sea ice, polar bear sightings are likely to become more common further south. This petition is urging the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife, and Parks to be better prepared to deal with the next polar bear sighting, so more bears are not needlessly killed. If you think polar bears should be protected, not shot and killed, sign the petition now.

Amazon returns

PAOV — “The world’s most powerful multinational destroys US$400 million in new products in Canada every year!” Instead of being resold, millions of dollars worth of products returned to Amazon are destroyed, even if they’re in perfect condition. Petition starter Carole is appalled by how many functional products are sent to landfill and is demanding that the federal government force the company to reduce its impact on our environment. If you think that Amazon shouldn’t be able to destroy brand new and working products, sign today.

Xinka land defenders are risking their lives to fight Pan American Silver’s massive silver mine in Guatemala.

Sign the petition to stop destructive silver mining projects now.

A,

For nearly a decade, the Indigenous Xinka people, living near the Escobal silver mine in Guatemala, have peacefully opposed the mine -- protecting their lands and waters from destruction. For their resistance, Xinka community members have been killed and jailed.

The silver lining was that they stopped one of the most contentious silver mines in Latin America mid operation.

Meanwhile, the same mining company that is operating in Guatemala, Pan American Silver, is also trying to build a mine in Argentina. It is claiming that the proposed site is on ‘no man’s land’, completely dismissing the presence of Mapuche Tehuelche Indigenous people that live on the land, and steamrolling a massive 20 year resistance against mining.

Pan American Silver’s biggest meeting of the year takes place in early May and we want to...

Costco

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — The production of palm oil is destroying rainforests and killing the animals that inhabit them — animals like orangutans, tigers, and elephants. Costco’s Kirkland brand uses palm oil in many of their products, and Costco has not updated their palm oil policy since 2015. Petition starter Ashley believes it’s time for Costco to go palm-oil free. If you believe rainforests and wildlife shouldn’t be destroyed for profit, add your name today.

Putins bombs

Young child walking alone with a backpack

A,

In the first three weeks of Putin’s war, over 500 children were recorded crossing into Romania all by themselves.

Alone and vulnerable, they join thousands of unaccompanied kids already in Europe – traumatised by war, now living in squalid camps or on the streets, and easy prey for traffickers.

Grassroots teams have been working round the clock to reunite child refugees with family members in Europe. Now their workload has surged overnight and they urgently need our help.

If we all chip in, we can supercharge these heroic teams – providing more children with legal and emotional support to get them out of danger, across borders and back with their families. They’ve already helped 1,800 children – just think how many more we could help.

Everything raised will go to these dedicated teams:

A request Im humbly asking you to consider

We have never been more in need of clear-eyed journalism that confronts the unchecked corporate, political, and military power at the root of the overlapping crises we face.

I know The Intercept has been sending you a lot of emails lately, but I’m hoping you’ll take a few minutes to read why I think this week’s deadline is so important.

As if the Trump years weren’t enough of a wake-up call, the world now risks being engulfed in a war begun by a nuclear-armed petrostate. The forces of imperial aggression, right-wing pseudo-populism, rampant misinformation, and climate breakdown continue to advance.

There is a relationship between our poisoned information ecology and our poisoned physical ecologies — and fearless reporting is a key part of the solution.

This is no time for The Intercept to scale back. We have never been more in need of...

Axa Stop Greenwashing War Crimes

A,

Speaking loudly about saving the planet while crushing the lives of millions: this is the appalling inconsistency of an insurer supposed to protect against the risks of life.

The giant insurer AXA is one of the biggest European investors in Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise. And warfare – a pillar of Israel’s economy – is one of the world’s most polluting industries.

When we’re fighting for climate justice, we're also fighting for human rights. AXA can’t water down its complicity in war crimes with its green commitments.

AXA must stop paying lip service to the climate and human rights and put an end to its complicity with the Israeli Occupation!

Today, AXA is holding its annual general meeting (AGM) - where its white collared executives will get together, listen to shareholders, take stock, and make big strategic decisions in front of the world’s media. In other words, it's the perfect time to publicly call on Axa to drop both its toxic and bloody investments.

A, call on AXA’s CEO, Thomas Buberl, on Twitter and demand they stop funding Israeli Occupation and environmental destruction.
