A,
The day after the election last month, thousands of SumOfUs members signed a petition calling on all political parties to take 5 immediate actions to address climate change. And we immediately heard back from government insiders so our message is being heard.
It's clear that a strong majority of Canadian voters want the new government to step up climate action now. According to a poll released last week -- 66% want the Liberals to enact their platform’s climate promises or even stronger climate policies.
Today, the new federal cabinet will be sworn in and there is no better time to make our demands heard loud and clear to the new government.
Thanks for all that you do,
Angus and the team at SumOfUs

PAOV — Canada exports tens of thousands of live horses for horse meat annually, and is one of the largest exporters of horse meat in the world. The horses are transported in inhumane conditions, in cramped crates on loud airplanes. Horses are frequently injured or killed in transit. This petition is urging the government to immediately end the export of live horses for slaughter. You can help in this critical moment by signing the petition now.

Why we are going back to court

Dear Friend,
In 2019, we had a historic win when the BC Court of Appeal ruled that the federal laws that permitted prolonged solitary confinement in Canada’s federal prisons were inhumane and unconstitutional.
But the fight against this unjust system is not over.
The government claims that solitary confinement has been banned. But wardens at federal prisons continue to isolate prisoners in long-term solitary confinement, under different processes and names such as lockdowns and restrictive movement routines.
That is why we are going back to court to fight against solitary confinement. Will you donate today to help us fight for the rights of people in prison?

Dogs saving elephants!

A,
In the Serengeti, a small, specially trained team of rescue dogs sniff out poachers and sound the alarm. Just 4 dogs have helped arrest hundreds of poachers, saving countless elephants being murdered for their ivory.
Almost a quarter of the elephants in the park now live in the tiny area they protect -- but poaching is on the rise everywhere else and there are thousands more elephants that still need protection.
That’s why the team behind this amazing project is asking for your help to train up double the number of these sniffer dogs -- and save double the number of elephants.
With 96 of these gentle giants killed each day, every moment counts.

PAOV — Having a negative COVID test is now a requirement to travel to many parts of the world. The price of this test is set by each private business that offers them. This petition is demanding the government step in to regulate the price of a travel-related COVID test, to ensure fair prices and equal access for all Canadians. If you agree, sign the petition now.

A,
We've been so successful using shareholder action to get companies to change their bad behaviour...that they're trying to shut the whole program down!
Just last year, a SumOfUs shareholder resolution forced Apple to publish its first-ever human rights policy. So now the US stock regulator made a new rule -- anyone who wants to bring this kind of resolution will need to hold thousands of shares...and companies are setting VERY early deadlines to buy them!
They're trying to silence everyone but the richest shareholders. But A, we can beat them at their own game.
We already bought shares in Apple, just in time. And if 5000 people reading this email chip in the cost of a coffee, SumOfUs can buy enough shares...

Pharma is fleecing the U.S. government

From the start of the pandemic, Covid-19 has meant huge profits for some pharmaceutical companies at the expense of human health and well-being.
Big Pharma pushed furiously to block generic vaccines, hiring an army of lobbyists including Democratic Party insiders like Howard Dean. In India, health care capitalists used their duopoly to jack up prices, leading to deadly delays of the vaccine rollout.
Now, reporting from The Intercept shows that the pharmaceutical giant Merck is charging the U.S. government 40 times what it costs to produce molnupiravir, the first oral antiviral treatment for Covid-19.
Adding insult to injury, American taxpayers spent $29 million developing the drug, and now we’re getting massively gouged for the drug our taxes helped develop.
Urgent: reef threat

Right now, The Bank of New York Mellon is deciding if it should give a massive bailout to Adani's troubled coal project near Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
Can you help save the reef by demanding BNY Mellon rules out funding this disastrous carbon bomb?

EXPOSED: Adani's risky coal project that could help hasten the destruction of Australia's Great Barrier Reef might be about to receive a huge lifeline from the Bank of New York Mellon -- but A, you can stop it.
You have already helped force over 100 companies to say they won’t work on Adani's Carmichael mining project. So in desperation, Adani knocked on the door of the Bank of New York Mellon, the bank founded by Alexander Hamilton (yes, that Hamilton from the global hit musical).
If this eleventh hour deal goes through it could undo so much vital work our movement has done. But it’s...
