Lets buy Bayer-Monsanto?!

A,
We have a new plan to take on Bayer-Monsanto and their bee-killing pesticides: buy up shares and fight them from the inside!
We’ve spent years taking on these giants, and we’ve had incredible success. But their resources are endless, and they always find ways to bully beekeepers and keep their poisons on shelves and in our food.
So here’s what we’ll do -- if enough people chip in, SumOfUs will buy stock in Bayer-Monsanto -- then work to rally other shareholders, turn up at their AGM, and ratchet up pressure on execs over their bee-killing ways.
We know this works. Just last year a SumOfUs shareholder resolution forced Apple to publish its first-ever human rights policy. Now it’s Monsanto’s turn.
For the next 24 hours we’ll use everything you give to generate matching donations from big funders, doubling your impact -- can you help buy a piece of Bayer-Monsanto and save the bees?

Paov,
Last week, COP26 wrapped up. And, like most of the United Nations climate conferences, the question on everyone’s minds is whether or not governments, like ours in Canada, are actually going to do enough at home to meet the promises we make on the world stage?
Justin Trudeau has a chance to actually do that this time around, but only if he makes big, bold climate policies like the Just Transition Act, his top priority. That’s why this week, we’re flooding the Prime Minister's phones with calls to do just that.
Click here to make a call now.
In one week, Parliament will resume with a long list of things to do. And, we know that Justin Trudeau has sidelined passing the Just Transition Act before when, after promising the Act in 2019, he stayed silent on it until just before the election in 2021. We can’t let that happen again.
We need a Just Transition Act that guarantees good, union jobs, puts people first, and matches the scale of action we need to tackle the climate crisis. By flooding the Prime Minister's phone lines, we’ll make it clear that Trudeau needs...

PAOV — As of November 8, the US land border is open to fully vaccinated travellers. However, Canadians returning to the country must have a negative COVID test, which is often prohibitively expensive as prices are set by each company that offers them. The government has said that they are considering ending the PCR test requirement, but no commitment has been made. If you would like the PCR test requirement ended, or the cost at least regulated, sign the petition now.

Outnumbered by Big Oil

Paov,
The COP26 climate summit ends today and, while there are some steps in the right direction in the draft decision document1 — the official agreement we can use to hold governments accountable to their pledges — it’s hard to feel confident in a process where fossil fuel lobbyists outnumbered delegates from any single country.2
Big Oil flooded Glasgow with over 500 delegates, outnumbering the summit’s official Indigenous constituency by nearly two to one. While reps from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and Suncor worked the rooms, people from the civil society, the Global South, and communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis were shut out.3
The oil and gas industry is on a lobbying offensive, desperately trying to block, delay and greenwash real climate action to protect their profits. They must be getting nervous because they know our people-powered movement to end their grip on politics is growing fast. Here at home, people across the country have been building support in their communities for a just transition off fossil fuels. Nearly 10,000 of you have now signed the petition calling on Trudeau to finally deliver the promised Just Transition Act.

AXA's on the move!

A,
No more insurance for the most destructive new oil and gas projects, including fracking, Arctic drilling and tar sands production - this was the welcome policy announced by AXA's CEO Thomas Buberl just a few days ago.
This is undoubtedly a step in the right direction; however, the policy still allows AXA to continue with 53% of all new oil and gas projects... AXA's policy change is therefore not enough!
Our hope was that Buberl would take real leadership and ban coverage on all new oil and gas projects, as it did a few years ago with coal. This half measure announcement comes despite the fact the risks of new oil and gas projects to our health and planet are too large to “insure”.
This is our spread in the Financial Times targeting AXA's CEO Thomas Buberl,
in the hands of our partner Lucie Pinson, Director of the NGO Reclaim Finance
Nonetheless, our partners unanimously agree that SumOfUs members' mobilisation has played...

96 elephants dead

A,
In the Serengeti, a small, specially trained team of rescue dogs sniff out poachers and sound the alarm. Just 4 dogs have helped arrest hundreds of poachers, saving countless elephants being murdered for their ivory.
Almost a quarter of the elephants in the park now live in the tiny area they protect -- but poaching is on the rise everywhere else and there are thousands more elephants that still need protection.
That’s why the team behind this amazing project is asking for your help to train up double the number of these sniffer dogs -- and save double the number of elephants.
With 96 of these gentle giants killed each day, every moment counts.
