A,
Lobsang Yangtso escaped from Tibet by climbing over the Himalayas when she was just 9 years old.
Today, she's an environment and climate crisis expert with a Ph.D. And she's terrified about what is happening in her Tibetan homeland, where ice is melting 3x faster than anywhere else on the planet. As home to a glacier that provides water for 1 in every 5 people on Earth...we should all be terrified.
Lobsang wants to sound the alarm at the critical COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, just weeks away. But the high cost of attending means she and other front-line activists and experts are being shut out completely -- leaving the fossil fuel lobby to control the narrative and stop real action.
We can change that -- if thousands of us chip in, our community can send Lobsang to meet our leaders...and fund campaigning for real impact...

Dear Friend,
Over the last week we’ve told you about the work that the BCCLA has done to end prolonged, indefinite solitary confinement. We’ve told you how this practice has continued in different ways.
We want to end this practice, once and for all. Today, I’m writing to you with an important announcement: we’re suing to end long-term solitary confinement, no matter what it’s called.
We want to end prolonged, indefinite lockdowns and restrictive movement routines, which are just solitary confinement by another name and need to stop now.
Make a donation to support our lawsuit today.
In 2019, we had a historic win in the BC Court of Appeal: the court ruled that the federal laws that permitted solitary confinement in Canada’s federal prisons were inhumane and unconstitutional.
Despite this, wardens continue to isolate people in long-term solitary confinement in federal prisons. They routinely lock down...

A,
Tenimba was just 11 when a trafficker lured him from his home in Mali to a cocoa plantation in Ivory Coast. He was promised good pay and care. Instead he worked every day for two years with no pay, no medical care, and no safety measures.
Today there are over 1.5 million child laborers like Tenimba, losing their childhood to supply cocoa to some of the world’s wealthiest brands, like Nestlé, Mars, and Hershey.
But Tenimba and 7 other former child slaves are fighting for justice, and have just brought a new lawsuit against these chocolate giants, hoping to get justice for themselves and hundreds of thousands of others.
They’re up against the most expensive lawyers money can buy -- and they’re asking for your help. Will you help fund their lawsuit...

PAOV — “There are solutions and alternatives to protecting BC’s caribou, but killing animals should not be one of them.” In 2015, the BC government authorized a wolf hunt in an effort to protect mountain caribou, and more than 1,000 wolves have been killed over the last six years. This month, the government will be back in court trying to extend the program for another 5 years. More than 500,000 supporters are urging the government to stop the hunt. The use of long-term lockdowns disproportionately impacts Indigenous, Black and racialized people. It’s dehumanizing, and causes deep physical, psychological, and spiritual trauma.

Amazon under attack

A,
Far right Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says it's his "dream" to crack open the Amazon.
And he's pushing legislation to make his dream come true -- opening the rainforest to out-of-control mining and expelling Indigenous peoples from their ancestral lands to make it happen.
These hideous bills could be voted on any day now -- we need an urgent, all-out push to stop him. That means polling to put pressure on key politicians, generating national and international media coverage, and backing the Indigenous organizations on the front lines to stop this dangerous legislation in its tracks.
And it means we're counting on you, A -- will you chip in today to save the Amazon and its people?

Dear Friend,
In 2019, we had a historic win when the BC Court of Appeal ruled that the federal laws that permitted prolonged solitary confinement in Canada’s federal prisons were inhumane and unconstitutional. The court ordered sweeping changes to the laws that determine how solitary confinement is used throughout federal prisons.
This victory wouldn’t have been possible without the survivors of solitary who bravely stepped forward to describe the cruel reality of solitary confinement to the courts.
They told the court of the immense suffering they experienced in prison – from BobbyLee Worm, who spent three and a half years in solitary, to Andre Blair, who spent 363 days imprisoned in a small, dirty cell. Their bravery signalled that there is room for hope – and a reason to continue fighting for justice and fundamental rights.
While the government claims that solitary confinement has been banned, the fight against...

Friends,
Since the election, thousands of you have sent messages to Justin Trudeau and his new government pushing for a big, bold Just Transition Act that leaves no one behind. But we know that Big Oil is using its dirty tricks to try and derail the kind of action we need.
Now it’s time to talk to the public about a Just Transition Act that guarantees good, green, union jobs, respects climate science, and puts people first. To do that we’ve set up a tool to send letters to the editor to local papers across the country pushing for the kind of Just Transition Act we need.
Click here to use our simple tool to send a letter to the editor of your local paper in just 2 minutes.
If millions of people across the country hear our call for a Just Transition that leaves no one behind, we can build the movement we need to win a strong Just Transition Act.
Earlier this week, we learned that Canada is among the world's top 10 contributors to historical greenhouse gas emissions. The Trudeau...

Facebook’s supposed watchdog just let execs off the hook for lying to them. That’s not good enough for a body designed to protect us, the users -- tell the Facebook Oversight Board to resign if Facebook doesn’t release the research!
A,
The Wall Street Journal and whistleblower Frances Haugen just exposed secret Facebook research into the harm caused by the platform. Mark Zuckerberg chose to straight-up ignore that research because it was bad for business.
But instead of coming down hard, Facebook’s “oversight board” issued a cop-out response, and made it clear that company execs aren’t even honest with them. How can they oversee Facebook if they’re constantly lied...

Demand Gov. Newsom and Pres. Biden take action to prevent this from happening again
Stop future oil spills: tell President Biden and Governor Newsom to block all new oil and gas wells, pipelines, and refineries. TAKE ACTION
This past weekend in Huntington Beach, just 10 miles from where I live in Southern California, a pipeline connected to an offshore oil platform ruptured and sent more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil flooding into the Pacific Ocean and onto beaches.
The coastline near my home normally teeming with wildlife and families is now covered with black tar, dead fish, and dying birds.
What are President Biden and Governor Newsom doing to prevent this from happening in the future?
Spoiler alert: Not enough.
