Hi PAOV,
Out of the 13 million people who use Change.org in Canada, only a small group of people have received this email. You are one of the most active Change.org users who have signed petitions to power social change and hold powerful people to account in these past few months.
I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this, but our campaigns team in Canada is just 5 people. There’s only so much 5 people can do to help Canadian petition starters run impactful campaigns. We could hire many more experts if we, say, ran ads for big companies on our website. We could introduce paid functions, which only a few could afford. But this would go against our mission. We strongly believe that Change.org must remain independent, free, and open for all. That’s why our sustainability, growth, and...
Blockbuster scoop on coronavirus research in Wuhan

For the last several months, we’ve been fighting in court to get the U.S. government to release records about virus research, hoping to shed light on how the pandemic began.
Now that they’ve finally begun to comply with a judge’s order, what we’ve found is explosive: The National Institutes of Health appears to have funded controversial “gain of function” research in bat coronaviruses in China — calling into question previous denials by Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Viruses described in the documents we’ve received were not closely related to the virus that causes Covid-19 and so could not have caused the pandemic.
However, these previously unpublished reports raise serious questions about whether other activities at the Wuhan lab could be linked to the pandemic —...

PAOV — “Spraying the land with poison from the air because it is cheaper than paying workers to thin trees on the ground has to stop.” Nova Scotians are protesting the spraying of glyphosate-based pesticides on forests in the province. The protestors are camped out in areas slated for aerial spraying in September and are urging the government to put an end to the use of glyphosate. If you agree, sign the petition now.

BREAKING: Experts rate Trudeau's climate record Highly Insufficient
- Details

Friends,
Yesterday, Climate Action Tracker – a global body responsible for expert scientific reviews of climate plans around the world – released a new analysis that rated Trudeau’s climate record and ambition “highly insufficient” and in line with 4ºC+ of warming.1 To put that in context, the raging wildfires that we experienced this summer were driven by just over 1ºC of warming. 4ºC of warming is almost unthinkably dangerous.
Right now, this news isn’t breaking through in the election campaign. Most people in Canada are seeing ads, backed by millions of dollars in Liberal spending, telling them that Justin Trudeau is a climate leader. Trudeau and the Liberals are doing everything they can to hide the fact that Canada has the worst climate record in the G7. We need to change that. Can you help us out by sharing the news?

Your RCMP lawsuit to do list

Dear Friend,
Our lawyers are headed to Federal Court next week, face to face with the RCMP.
We’re demanding accountability after a nearly seven-year delay in our complaint against the RCMP for illegal surveillance of climate organizations and Indigenous land defenders.
In November 2020, we launched our lawsuit against the RCMP Commissioner for extreme delays in responding to public complaints. On September 21 and 22, we’ll be in hearings at the Federal Court.
Our lawyers will show the court how delays have plagued the complaints system for over a decade, and how the RCMP Commissioner can frustrate the complaints process by sitting on reports for years on end.
Here’s what you can do to join our fight for police accountability:

Help us elect a wave of climate champions

Paov,
We’re just one week away from election day on September 20th. All week, we’ll hear from Liberals and Conservatives that they are the only two choices this election, but we know that decades of Conservative climate denial and Liberal delay are why we're in this crisis. Status quo politics won't get us out.
There is a third option and it hinges on climate voters across the country uniting across party lines to elect an unprecedented slate of climate champions. Can you help our movement make our closing argument about uniting the climate vote? Here are two things you can do to help.
1. Today, we launched a video about our movement for a Climate Emergency Voters Alliance. Can you take a minute to share it with your friends and networks?

96 elephants killed today
- Details

A,
In the Serengeti, a small, specially trained team of rescue dogs sniff out poachers and sound the alarm. Just 4 dogs have helped arrest hundreds of poachers, saving countless elephants being murdered for their ivory.
Almost a quarter of the elephants in the park now live in the tiny area they protect -- but poaching is on the rise everywhere else and there are thousands more elephants that still need protection.
That’s why the team behind this amazing project is asking for your help to train up double the number of these sniffer dogs -- and save double the number of elephants.
With 96 of these gentle giants killed each day, every moment counts.

In the 20 years since 9/11, the United States has launched two wars, engaged in military conflict in dozens of countries, gutted civil liberties at home and abroad, spent more than $8 trillion, killed more than 900,000 people, engaged in torture, and imprisoned tens of thousands of people without a hint of due process.
All of this was done with bipartisan support, and the results have been disastrous.
But we can’t just blame the politicians. Too often, a compliant news media helped politicians and generals beat the drums of war and mislead the public. And sadly, many of the same talking heads — often with their own ties to the defense industry — are still advocating for endless war, even after...
